We got a good reaction pic out of it, I guess
Who’s excited for Star Fox 64 4
G-Diffuser… seems fine. Let’s go already!
Oh you know that one’s gonna come to bite him in the butt later
Yeah, we know because we have already played this game like 4 times before lol
Hard pass. Maybe they’ll take that engine and make new content with it. If so then I’ll pay attention.
At least it has a multiplayer mode but I do find it odd how they full release old games instead of having it as an expansion for new games.

Sad to see the huge engine glow go. I always thought it looked cool.
I have wanted a new Starfox game for so long. I wanted to be excited about this, but why are they remaking it AGAIN?!? 4 of the 7 Starfox games are the same fucking game! When people said they wanted a new Starfox game they meant they wanted a NEW Starfox game. If they wanted to do just a visual upgrade they could have just tweaked Zero and released it on Switch. I mean hell at least that game had new content. The franchise has so much potential and its so frustrating to see Nintendo be completely unable to innovate on this series. Fucking Konami managed to do a decent job for fucks sake. This is the only franchise of theirs that they are just completely incapable of creating something new for and its honestly baffling.

Granted some of what we see takes after Space Harrier a bit more. Rogue Flight has some very good VA, at least.
Looks fine, wish it had split screen.
Fox did make it into the Mario Galaxy movie. Maybe they have plans…
I mean they directly referenced that in the direct. This remake is the plan unfortunately. Maybe we’ll actually get a new Starfox game in 2036.
They should fuse it with that ground RPG and make their own co-op No Man’s Sky.
Guys just play the PC port of SF64 called Starship
Is that playable on my Switch 2?
AFAIK, it’s only playable on a hacked original Switch, by loading the compiled game onto an SD card.
With mod support too!
I’m only getting results polluted with a spacex sim. Have you a link?

You also need to download the rom of SF64
Legend. Thank you!
Gameplay looks fine, but I’m not buying a switch 2 to play.
What’s up with Fox’s appearance tho? He looks like he’s cone out of retirement being overweight. Remaster doesn’t mean you have to have realistic visuals that alter from the style of the original.
Check out the OG Star Fox boxart on SNES, it’ll look familiar. Both US and Japanese versions.
Most of the graphical changes seem… fine I guess. The characters faceplant right into the weird hyperrealistic uncanny valley tho.
I’m not sure them mentioning more dialogue and cutscenes makes me particularly excited. Seeing what they’ve changed and added in the trailer doesn’t inspire confidence, it feels like those joke AAA gaming tutorial things where they state the obvious in a hyper positive cheesy voice and maybe I’m just picky because its different, but here we are.
The multiplayer looks sort of neat, too bad I’d have to buy a switch 2, pay for Nintendo online, and suffer on Nintendo’s shitty servers to use it.
I’ll probably just stick to the recomp. My favorite part of the game is the gameplay, and that looks completely unchanged.

Yeah, I’m not thrilled. Anthro animals with hyperrealistic human proportions give me the jibblies. Reminds me of this old (meme?)

On one hand I’m glad they didn’t go with the overdone cutesy Disney style for the animals, but yeah Fox especially looks off in the kinda realistic style. He looks more like Fantastic Mr. Fox now.

I enjoyed that movie. I love stop motion as a medium
I love that movie, so I think it’s a good choice!
Its not uncanny for me per se, but I don’t like their design either. In the Mario Galaxy Movie he looked fine–that is they did not change a thing expect for the high fidelity ofcourse. Which is fine, guess they somehow feel forced to do something with the design as its a remake. Really have to try the recomp though!
I actually love the character models because they look like old times puppets. Creepy, but nostalgic creepy for an oldtimer like me.
Remake? Zzzz
Why not just make a new one?
Nintendo has had very few original ideas in a long time. They know they can just keep churning out remakes and sequels to their franchise library of Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Starfox, Pokemon, etc. and keep raking in the cash, so why change the formula?
People buy this shit, so there is no motivation to do anything else.
[EDIT]
Wow. A lot of Nintendo fans really don’t like me saying this, apparently.
Don’t forget Pikmin and Splatoon.
That’s genuinely not true. They’re actually infuriatingly devoted to only putting out games with new ideas. We don’t get regular sequels often because they wouldn’t deviate far enough from the previous one.
The spin for this new Star Fox is clearly the camera tie in, getting to basically be a vtuber in their chat system. It also utilizes mouse controls, a series first.
I mean…Zelda ToTK was basically “BotW, but better and with Garry’s Mod”.
Almost every Pokemon game has been the same formula, but with a few new things sprinkled in. Legends Arceus was one of the biggest departures in recent memory, but it was still a lot of the same, but 3D open world.
Mario Kart is 80% the same with maybe double carts, flying mechanics, etc. added in. This time they added a kinda sorta open world.
They change the formula a bit, but their innovation is usually leaving the base that works alone and adding a flavor packet.
Nintendo don’t develop Pokemon.
Kind of. Game Freak isn’t a subsidiary of Nintendo, but they work VERY closely together to the point that Nintendo has a lot of say.
Doesn’t look great…
From the trailer the gameplay seems fine, although I don’t get why they are remaking 64 again (again), and the graphics look decent, albeit generic. I kinda hate the character redesigns and voices. The “more cutscenes” doesn’t really feel like a selling point to me and I’m a bit worried about it.
I got some real Focus M vibes from the cutscenes.
My friend said it was just 90s game-styled dialogue, I said what fucking 90s games are you playing?
Ugh, it’s Star Fox 64. I loved it as a kid because it was new and cutting edge and hey rumble pack… but the tone of the SNES original, the music, the character art, they were better than Star Fox 64’s in retrospect.
On top of that, they tried to make Fox look like a realistic fox with that goofy cartoon pattern and mohawk, and it’s just not working for me. The mohawk never worked for me and now it looks even sillier.
It’s a good thing I already laid Nintendo to rest in my heart or seeing this might have hurt a little.
The character design makes me think of Final Fantasy. 1-5, you’re dealing with chibi sprites and some silly situations where they’re jumping up and down, but also horrible circumstances that define the fate of the world. Even as far as 10, they improve their graphics but aim for a colorful, fantasy-driven atmosphere.
Then you get to 15, 16, and they’re pivoting to the dark and gritty, showing medieval warriors with realistic faces fighting through blood and grime to victory. And if there’s funny clips of 16, I’ve never seen them.
It speaks toward Japan really backlashing to the way the “JRPG” moniker is seen, and attempting to show they can make something “adult” and “realistic”. But it ends up doing the opposite.
Notably, take a look at Mouse, PI’s release. It’s a fully cartoony, silly aesthetic, but take two steps into the world and you’re fighting police corruption, Nazis, and coming back to a bar owned by a dour owner who can tell you dozens of stories about the way modern life hits the most vulnerable. It’s a true adult’s package, wrapped in a childish layer, rather than the opposite. Which, yeah, feels like the effort to make Starfox look “real”.
Also as someone else said, the widened fur around Fox’s neckline does somehow make him look obese.
