Generally best to avoid rewarding such behavior. If they want up when they are too young to make the jump, best to teach them they need to meow to get your attention and get up that way.
Currently (lovingly) dealing with two kittens and I’m making great effort to curb negative behaviors. Basic stuff like “if you cause me pain, the petting stops”.

Literally all it takes to teach a kitten appropriate behavior is to act just like a momma cat would.
When they use claws, exaggerate the pained reaction. You don’t need to yell at them or anything you just play it up.
Pretends it doesnt hurt and then praising them is literally the worst thing you could do.

My shoulders are great for either getting a good grip while cuddling or jumping onto them after showering, which one of my cats is very adamant about - he is very unhappy every time i disappear into the shower, but he doesn’t want to join either lol
I had an funny moment during a massage when I realized how torn up my shoulders were from my giant cat.
He likes to get up there and have me walk around the house while he loses his footing/grip every step due to the excitement.
When he was younger a lot of these rides would be surprises to me while he leapt up there from great heights.
They stop doing that once they’re big enough to jump - which is very young! However, that doesn’t stop them pulling loops of thread out of all your clothes. I maybe shouldn’t have asked for anything nice for my birthday…
