Billionaires don’t want you to know this, but you can end the rat race by forming a union. The work will still be shit, but you’ll get good pay, benefits, and a union

Yes, to avoid going to war in Troy. He was coerced into ending the charade when Agamemnon placed his infant son Telemechus in front of Odysseus’ path

19·4 days agoand like idiots, we’re going to play right into it.
As a queer person in Minneapolis, my only option is to stand up and confront these fascists. Acting may lead to my death, but not acting guarantees lifelong oppression. Not just for me, but my friends, family, and neighbors.
If protesting leads to increased violence and oppression against us, the answer is not to shrink and hide, but to resist harder. I will not be surprised when a person or people kill ICE agents at a raid.

134·8 days agoI think it’s fair to call me an elder lemming at this point, as I recall the reasons for both. I signed up on .world with my first account on the last day before the infamous APIocalypse.
Along with myself, a lot of us were putting effort into posting good stuff, upvoting, and generally having a lot of positive interactions. Someone on !lemmyshitpost@lemmy.world posted a picture with a can of beans with a caption along the lines of “I hear that lemmy will upvote anything. Here’s a picture of beans”. It quickly became the most upvoted post of all time.
As lemmy culture developed into a deeply political space, it began flooding !lemmyshitpost@lemmy.world with American politics. People got sick of it, and people started doing “we’re posting x now until politics stops”. There had been a couple rounds of various themes, and then someone announced “that’s it, I’m sick of politics everywhere. We’re posting corn”. Cornposting has become the default political purge over there.

12·9 days agoObama should have appointed a progressive judge and declared that Congress has opted to decline their constitutional duty.
he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, judges of the Supreme Court, and all other officers of the United States, whose appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by law: but the Congress may by law vest the appointment of such inferior officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the courts of law, or in the heads of departments.
Now, I’m not a lawyer, but I’ve spent a long time pouring over labor laws. “by and with advice and consent”, along with other permissive language like “may” and “shall” speaks to the ability of Congress to decline their duty of appointment.
It may be a trap, but what if it isn’t?
