Doesn’t it autocomplete? I mean, not if it’s an argument for sudo, obviously, but my terminal starts in interactive mode anyway, so that’s rarely an issue

Why not if it’s for sudo, can’t sudo just redirect the auto complete to ask based on the command after sudo?

I don’t know, to be honest; I’m not deeply familiar with its workings. I just know that I made a habit of running a command “dry” without sudo, both because not everything should be done with superuser privileges* and because it’s a way to make sure I get the syntax right, then if it does need sudo, I repeat it with sudo.

*Which is why sudo -i (the interactive mode) is a dangerous tool that shouldn’t actually be your default mode of working

Auto complete is a separate command (or a bash function) that runs when you press tab. It’s a feature of the terminal (e.g. bash). Programs can provide theur auto complete while distributing their packages, or provide a flag to generate auto complete.

So I would think you can just call that function call auto complete for whatever command is after sudo. But maybe it gets complicated. I’ve only written it for my own programs.

Note to future readers: deleting gnu library for C and C++ used by the Kernel, and deleting its dependencies, recursively, could potentially prevent your operating system from utilizing your CPU, and will absolutely cause problems with any Linux install, which is sort of a bad idea.

the kernel itself does not depend on glibc. that is ridiculous. if it did, it would not be able to mount the root filesystem, since the glibc it needed to do so would be on the filesystem it was about to mount.

what does depend on glibc is virtually every other program on the system, including systemd.

the kernel would boot but it would not get much farther than that. the kernel would start systemd as pid 1, systemd would try to load glibc and fail, systemd would exit, and the kernel would immediately panic because pid 1 died

In some societies official representatives and news outlets are even less trustworthy than memes. Russia, USA, North Korea, dozens of them.

Fucking christ man, I just woke up and you’re already flinging your shit at others

This place is starting to get worse than reddit. Same amount of crazies, but much higher density and not nearly enough of the normal, self-aware people to make it bearable.

                I’ll defend my statement.

The previous statement made by username_1 is clearly authoritarian in nature due to:

                1. Comparing Chinese and Russian journalism to that of the USA journalism

                2. Opposing journalism entirely

It’s literally one of the core tenants of fascism, “Controlled Mass Media”.

At the risk of breaking rule 3 point 3, which specifically forbids the topic of politics:

Can you not see how literally all of those points are applicable to the present-day USA? The comment is accurate, correct, and factual.

Regardless of whether you think you’re right or wrong, or your opinion of the other person, you will not call any community member a fascist, a nazi, a communist, a Maoist, a liberal, a fence-sitter, a Posadist, or any other politically charged insult. If a comment or post is in violation of the rules, you can report it. If you need to vent your frustration, you can go to Twitter. I won’t allow this community to turn into a Linux-flavored political partisanship shit-show.

                  This discussion is over.

This probably doesn’t work. Many packages will have glibc as a dependency and pacman doesn’t break that unless you tell it to (IIRC pacman -Rdd)

That feeling when you’re discovering “yes” for the first time from a random internet meme after using Linux for 2 decades 😅
