I thought one carries flowers upside down so the water in the stems stays with the flowers instead of dripping out. It keeps them from drying out

You carry them upside down because flowers are heavy and catch wind. If you let them dangle, they’ll sway instead of snap.
That actually makes good sense. Especially if you’re dealing with the same climate. Next time I buy flowers I’m cosplaying a bit.
