And if it is barbed, it can be better to push all the way through instead of trying to tear it out against the barbs.

Catfish stab people all the time. They have long, and sometimes barbed, spines in their fins. Can go clean through your hand. And if it is barbed, it can be better to push all the way through instead of trying to tear it out against the barbs.
Then there’s noodlers
That can be a danger with some fish…
