You can put it in a bit of water on the stove for a few minutes and get the same result too, without overcooking it. I know microwaves are faster though, but I have a different appreciation of time I guess…

In our time, squeezing everyone for their worth is all there is left for these people to get rich. They’ve run out of ways to squeeze and so are going for the last hurrah.

I guess it hinges on whether you think a “successful” state is one that is life giving versus just “stable”. I’m not saying morality has to do with stability, but rather what (to me) is the sign of a successful state of affairs. Evil doesn’t fit in to my idea of success.

Truly though, I thought they were making a connection between a nation built on slavery and genocide, fomenting much of the coups and dictatorships of the 20th century and recent failures. I thought they were just pointing out that there’s a pattern, and that it’s rooted in our country’s history.

And on top of this, a dangerous rhetoric I keep seeing/hearing from the Right is that “the left has taught America to hate itself”. This is dangerous because any criticism, even those intended to improve the country is considered a “problem”. After all, all we need to do is just say America is great, without actually doing anything to make it so.
