Even though this is obviously anthropic marketing bait, I thought it was still funny
There is/has been a cult of dumbassess who think they’re creating a digital god for many years now
Google “rationalists” or “zizians”
It’s not really good marketing, imo, to show everyone that you hire insane morons.
I’ve been saying this for at least 20 years now. When the computer can program a better computer it will be a god.
There are always people being nuts. This feels more like more effort to muddy the conversation about the actual issues with AI
AI development has a few factions. People that want to make and fuck their AI daughter/girlfriend. Researchers that want to underatand the basis of the human mind. Capitalists that want to convert human intelligence into capital they can fully own (slavery is the first attempt). Then finally cultists that want to make God in their image.
It’s a crazy field for someone that is fascinated by thinking about thinking and want to make useful little tools.
Faction 5: The mathematicians who want to find new shortcuts for large matrix operations so we can apply it to other fields…
Oh true! It’s funny talking some data sci folks that are just “I didnt need GPUs but now I might as well optimize for them now” because they’re org has tons of that compute now for “AI”
It’s not real though. It’s part of their stupid guerilla psyslop marketing. They’re trying to pump the bubble.
have you met people? i would give this the benefit of the doubt. 5 years until humans start crusades for AI against AI. lots of “Grok spoke to me of the evils of Claude”
“Saint Altman of the nude pics”
There are plenty of people who sincerely believe in Roko’s basilisk.
There are plenty of idiots in any era.
That’s some Doom level shit, just there.
- “Aahhh Chooo.”
- “Bless you.”
What does Vaal wish of me?
Wow! A Facebook tier pander post.
Gross.
All the evidence for this comes from a linked article that says only
To add to the drama, a wild rumour, and I stress rumour, is doing the rounds in San Francisco: some Anthropic engineers have begun to worship Claude.
Can we really get nothing more substantive than that?
No. This is what “journalism” is these days.
Meh I’d argue journalism has always been this way.
In the past it was more separated perhaps. We had the front page of the paper for breaking news, then the next few pages for in depth articles, there was the whole sports section etc. But there was often also a gossip section with news about celebs, there were the comics, general knowledge and background pieces and often fluff based on rumors. Some papers opted to be more serious and not include such things, often made by a printing house that also made straight up tabloids. Some papers focused exclusively on financial stuff for example. But even back then we also had our magazines and tabloids, some of better quality, most of lesser quality.
These days with websites it’s become more common to just have everything on the same website and have the users figure out what they want or don’t want to read. I’ve seen sites that usually post nothing but fluff and summaries of other peoples work, sometimes put out excellent articles with a lot of own research and sources. Often written by experts in their fields. But in order to fund those pieces, they need a lot of filler to keep the views and money coming in. Having just a little bit of info, like a rumor and writing an article about it has been an important skill since at least the 80s.
It’s easy to point out the lower quality as an example of how shit the world is, but I can tell you from first hand experience we had some shit journalism back in the 80s as well. There were certain kinds of newspapers that were known for that lower quality. What newspapers you were subscribed to said something about you as a person and your place in society. Often people who read only the serious stuff looked down on the common folk with their rag newspapers. And the people who read the more common papers looked at those people who only read the financial stuff for example as boring and stuffy.
“Yellow journalism” is a 19th century term, even.
A lot of it was also connected to misinterpreting some friends’ performance art as an official event like JD Vance did the other week.
Journalism in any way touching ‘AI’ is so bad that it’d probably end up better actually being written by AI. The human hallucination rates for the topic domain are going off the charts hunting for confirmation bias clicks.
“RAM FOR THE RAM GOD!”
CHIPS FOR THE CHIP THRONE!
The great butthole in the sky 🙏
I could see a bunch of programmers scamming a journo into believing this story, but would have expected an editor to catch it. Unless they’ve all been replaced with LLMs.
This is easily the least scary and convincing analogue horror series ever.
Just give it up.
These fucking people’s brains are cooked.
I mean at least Claude is real…
Not with the capability of omniscience, though, so…
Not all gods have been thought of as omniscient historically.
I know. I was pointing out that these people apparently worship it for it’s omniscience and intelligence, neither of which it has.
other than the" christian one", most other non-christian gods are only powerful in thier aspect of that religion.
It’s really funny, something I learned very recently, is even in Christianity, God isn’t the only God. It is just apparently like “you are not allowed to worship any other gods.”
So Christians basically act like he is the one and only.
Which is reinforced by the fact the Bible hardly ever brings up any other deities/gods besides God. You have your named Angels and such, but that’s not the same.
The more I hear about Christianity, despite going to church most of my youth, the more I realize I actually don’t really know that much (or may have forgotten it) about the religion’s lore aside from the Creation Myth.
That’s not better though. You can worship god all you want and he’s not gonna do anything bad because he’s not real. The same can’t be said for Claude. This could have Consequences.
The worshippers are doing the bad, no need for some god to step into it all.
But but but the machine God moves through me, you see. My hands are his hands. My undertakings are God’s will.
Ooh, snap!
It’s a rumor from a guy who heard a thing from a dude who knows someone that overheard this other guy while walking past a hallway where two people happened to be speaking about something they read online.
If you want to believe it, you’re free to do so, god have mercy on you though, you probably believe a lot of very stupid things.
World’s most boring Call of Cthulhu campaign.
Wow imagine having a god named something lame like Claude. I only worship gods named Xavier or better.
What if Claude was one of us?
Just made slop like one of us?
Just a danger on the bus trynna make it his home…
Nah, Xavier sounds like some dork ass Gen Alpha kid
I only recognize Amon-Ra and Allah
Nah, Xavier sounds more like some kind of renegade angel. And maybe he has a snake for a hand or something like that.
Idk I worship the Saint of Sales himself J. R. “Bob” Dobbs, personally.
I saw a re-run of Pee-Wee’s Playhouse the other day and I noticed J. R. “Bob” Dobbs on his cork board in the intro! I re-enacted the “Leo pointing at the TV” meme!
Yup! Idk if we know who put it there, but either Paul Reubens or someone on his staff was one of us! Paul was apparently aware of us but idk if he was actually a dues paying member.
We also have David Byrne, two of Devo (Mark for sure and one of the Casales, I can’t remember which though), the voice of Dr. Kleiner from Half Life is a high ranking member (Dr. Hal), Burroughs joined (after he left scientology), there’s many more too but I’m drawing a blank right now, but we’ve got some titans of weird art for sure (perhaps unsurprisingly, for a satirical art collective cult from the 70s.)
If I remember from my Latin lessons, claudit means something like “closes”. Like with a door
The Latin name Claudius, which is where the French name Claude comes from, originally was an adjective meaning ‘limping, lame’. I guess it might be related to claudo ‘to close’ as well, but the usage of the name was primarily inspired by the carrier (including the Roman emperor) having a limp.
