I love it when the libre software world moves from “what if there was an open source version of this” to “thanks for the starting concept, dear company, we’ll take it from here and make something bigger and better”.

I remember I tried Luanti a while ago (before the name change) but got a bit confused by the many games, like I thought it would be literally just a libre version of minecraft with builtin moddability. Once I read a bit about it it made a lot more sense, but by that time I was too busy to try it again. I’ve been thinking of getting back to gaming, I might give this a shot if I can’t find a libre version of Dwarf Fortress.

This place is full of former redditors. We’ve all been in the situation where someone comments the most deranged, obviously satire thing, you upvote and start playing in on the joke, saying something even more deranged, and they agree with you in an obviously satire back and forth, then you check their comment history and it turns out it was never satire from their side and you were encouraging a flat-earther. As much as the /s and the mOcKiNg CaSe annoy me, I think they’re necessary these days.

I’m baffled I just downvoted a comment saying “intellectual property is bullshit”. There’s a first time for everything I guess. And yes it is bullshit but gosh, what a weird place to take that stance.

Sometimes I catch myself opening nano inside emacs’ term. I literally forget I’m using emacs and just do it on instinct. I once also opened emacs inside emacs’ term and I just stared at the screen in disbelief.

And here you imply the cops do it because they’re mad at the privileged kids. The people who are the worst victims of police brutality live under enough oppression to have to stay silent for their lives. To imply they “respect” cops is dishonesty, there’s no way you believe that, and you definitely meant the cruelty. I’m really thankful to the privileged kids who use their privilege to speak about it because I only speak about it when I’m anonymous, because I literally fear for my safety. And to answer your question, the privileged kids absolutely shouldn’t stop.

I don’t like Russia but people supporting Russia doesn’t bother me near as much as people supporting the US/West. Yet I still haven’t blocked lemmy.world which is not only blatantly pro-west, but so heavily biased that most people legit think they aren’t, like I can tell they’re being sincere.

And if I ever block it or any instance/community/user, I won’t make a fuss about it, I’ll merely enjoy the peace of mind of not dealing with them. I’m happy for you that you won’t have to deal with these people anymore, I’ve blocked a few communities and instances as well and I love the fact we’re able to do it, that we get some level of control over what we see on our feed as opposed to some algorithm forcing us to pay attention to stuff that hurts us. Not a boomer but I follow a thirst trap guy on youtube who I was always sure was AI (like fully artificial, not based on a real person), but then he posted a really messy video (like imperfect skin, not fully shredded, awful lighting, messy room that didn’t look glamorous) and now I’m no longer sure, like there’s a chance it’s a real guy recording himself then asking AI to make him look flawless. Which means I may have been thirsting over a human all this time, ugh.

The point is I knew AI could improve real videos or generate realistic videos from scratch, but I assumed it was still easy to tell one from the other. Well, turns out either AI is now able to generate messy videos from scratch (that truly look low quality/effort) or it’s able to make real videos look like they were made from scratch. So I genuinely don’t trust myself to distinguish what’s AI anymore. And I’m around 30, so I don’t even have the age excuse.

That’s what annoys me the most with the nothing to hide crowd. You only have nothing to hide until they decide to go after something you have. I’m an LGBT person, I’m always one bad election away from having something to hide that could cost me my life. I see plenty of moralists who do tiny, widespread tactics to circumvent business taxes, and it’s so normalized here that they legit don’t realize they already have something to hide. Like yeah, realistically I wouldn’t expect the government to go after those people any time soon, but how the fuck are you literally breaking the law and literally every one of your customers know and you still think you have nothing to hide? I legit don’t understand those people.
