I played Stray the other day and it was getting a bit choppy sometimes. My PC is powerful enough that it shouldn’t have any issues at all with that game. I think it’s just optimised in a way that the game doesn’t like.

I wasn’t bothered because I didn’t like the game all that much.

Of course they do, half the time these studios have their entire future riding on their latest release.

I probably have as many technical issues updating Linux as I do Windows.

I like a GUI updater but the Plasma Discover one is so shit, it errors almost every time. I keep it for updating the odd flatpak, etc, but I always have to update from the terminal first.

As someone not from the US, how exactly does this work? Do they just grab you late on Friday and ask you to work on the weekend? Do they expect you to do it for free?

My office would try to talk you out of working weekends, and if you really had to do something that couldn’t be done in the week they’d try to get you to take time off in the week to make up for it. If you just had to work extra they’d pay you overtime rates, which I think is a legal requirement. They’ll also nag you to make sure you take all your annual leave.

If it wasn’t Google I’d probably have got one. I got a Polar Loop instead. It’s got quite a few negative reviews because when it first came out it had loads of problems but it’s fine now. It’s not as cheap but from a reputable EU company.

I found OVPN to be basically the same thing. They’ve actually proven in court that they have no way of logging customer activity.

Slowroll is my daily. I like it because most distros preach some kind of extreme philosophy, like Arch is ultra bare, Ubuntu et al are super easy, others are bleeding edge or slow and stable. openSUSE is (mostly) absolutely middle-of-the-road with a get-the-job-done kind of attitude I guess it makes it somewhat forgettable but I need the OS to just get out of the way and let me use my computer.

I’m sorry, I seem to have confused you with my simple analogy, let me make it a bit easier. Imagine a professional racing car driver (professional means someone who’s so good they get paid to do it) is in a race and they really want to win. They see a chance to get ahead but it means driving through a playground full of kids, but they do it and they hit one. Now that driver didn’t hit the kid on purpose but they should have known that was likely to happen when they drove through the playground. Do you understand now?

When evaluating a reckless tackle they take a few things into account like speed (there was some of this), force (there was plenty of this), and control (there was none of this). These are literally the best players in the world, they’re expected to make decisions as to what is safe and what isn’t. Making sure you don’t seriously injure other players isn’t just good sportsmanship, it’s required. If they show they can’t do that they shouldn’t be playing, hence the red card and ban.

This exact thing just happened to an England player and his tackle wasn’t as bad and he got the ball (the latter usually being the difference between a fair tackle and a foul). Even the English commentators were saying he deserved the red. We’ll see what happens to him.

A lot of people saying he shouldn’t even have gotten a red card because he didn’t do it on purpose; it was a reckless tackle and the injury was potentially career ending. If a drunk driver kills a kid you don’t let them of with a slap on the wrist because it was an oopsie.
