It depends on how you play, but I think Arthur Morgan from RDR2 can be a positive masculine role model if you play high honor the whole game or choose redemption in its final act.

News@lemmy.world•Megathread: Charlie Kirk Shot at Utah Valley University EventEnglish
1792·11 months agoThere’s so many layers of irony to this event. You can’t make this shit up.
A man, who made a career downplaying gun violence and advocating against empathy for its victims, was shot while giving a talk about his favorite topic under a tent that said “Prove me wrong”, on a college campus in a state that just lifted its ban on weapons on college campuses. His own quotes can be endlessly used to shut down any outrage at his ironic demise.
Charlie Kirk’s final moments were spent being definitively and completely proven wrong.
If this wasn’t going to used as an excuse to ban Trans people from owning firearms and for further violence against the opposition, it would be hilarious.

141·11 months agoYeah I know its straight out of the Fascist playbook, but this is way to conveniently timed and flawlessly executed. Its going to take some pretty compelling evidence for me to be convinced that this wasn’t a false flag. I definitely wont trust that its whomever the regime eventually pins it on.
Charlie was a disposable pawn of right wing moneyed interests, and he will continue to serve those interests in death.

Gaming@lemmy.ml•A game you think does DLC incredibly well?English
5·1 year agoAre we counting old-school expansions as DLC? If so, then, aside from the infamous Horse Armor, the Elder Scrolls series seriously raised the bar for what to expect from RPG add-ons. Tribunal and Bloodmoon were massive expansions that set the standard early on.
Knights of the Nine might’ve been a bit weaker, but Shivering Isles is one of the GOAT expansions and is arguably better than the base game.
Skyrim kept the momentum going with Dawnguard and Dragonborn, both of which added tons of new content.
The series is straight-up GOATed when it comes to expansions that are actually expansive: new locations packed with quests, items, monsters, spells, etc. They take already huge games and somehow make them even bigger.

10·1 year agoRen faires are just an anacronism stew. Maybe some take historical accuracy seriously, but I’ve been to quite a few and have yet to see one that does. My local one has everything from ancient greece to steampunk Victorians. There’s even a Wok themed after Imperial China where these guys would fit right in. You see more fantasy then historical costumes usually anyway.
It’s just a place for nerds and weirdos to vibe, buy trinkets, drink, eat fair food, and wear cool costumes.

19·1 year agoThe Billionaires are a bunch of Degenerate Morons who diddle children, much as the ruling class has always been. They’re funneling the world’s wealth upwards thinking capital will insulate them from the coming climate crisis they’re exasperating. How I wish I could be there when they realize that it won’t.

Games@lemmy.world•The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered - Official Trailer (Available Today!)English
22·1 year agoMorrowind would be a whole different beast to remaster. Not saying I wouldn’t enjoy some better graphics and tweaked systems, but it would be a hard sell to most gamers if they only did that.
-no voice acting -outdated gameplay systems -Game map that wasn’t designed with unlimited draw distance, fast travel, or even unlimited running in mind.
Honestly at this point it would be better served by a full remake.

Games@lemmy.world•The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered - Official Trailer (Available Today!)English
32·1 year agoWhat exactly has been changed besides the graphics? Sounds like they tweaked the melee combat to more resemble Skyrims.
Imo Oblivions two biggest problems were level scaling and how barren the world was between cities and dungeons.
Edit: I got it after watching more of the gameplay. It still feels like Oblivion, but there’s a lot of little tweaks that improve the experience. Combat and movement has more weight to it, so while the systems all effectively function the same it feels a lot less floaty then the original game. There’s a lot of small tweaks and QOL improvements, like the UI is reminiscent of the original but much more fluid. Cant comment on if they fixed level-scaling or not, as I’m only at level 3.
Make no mistake, this is 100% Oblivion. Its just a lot prettier and with a lot of small improvements. So far it seems like a rare modern Bethesda W.

Greentext@sh.itjust.works•Anon is worried about menEnglish
1·1 year agoA lot of people in this thread are talking about how much women suck because of X, Y, Z. But like… have you tried not dating shitty women? Or at least not getting so hung up on a woman who treats you poorly? Yeah, it sucks to be treated badly, but consider that you just dodged a bullet. You don’t need women like that in your life. Find a woman you actually connect with, someone you share interests with, not just someone you want to sleep with.
Two hard truths a lot of single men need to reckon with:
1: Most people are kind of shitty, and therefore, most women are kind of shitty. I could go on about how consumer culture and social media encourage toxic traits, but the fact of the matter is you should focus on not being a shitty person yourself, and you shouldn’t settle for shitty people either.
2: With number one in mind, you need to broaden your horizons regarding what kind of woman you’re attracted to. Porn and social media have rotted our brains when it comes to attraction. Maybe I’m just pervy, but honestly, I can find something attractive in just about everyone. 90% of people are at least a 7/10 if they put in some effort, and a 7/10 who you truly vibe with is better than a 10/10 who treats you like shit. And trust me, when you form a true romantic connection with someone, they become even more attractive in your eyes.
There are good, beautiful women out there, I know because I’m marrying one. We met online, and she’s one of the kindest and smartest people I’ve ever met, and I find her more beautiful than anyone else in the world. And I’m a fat, impoverished, autist. If I can do it, so can you.

Most men in Star Trek would fall into this category. Sisko fills the top spot for me though, for his portrayal as a supportive, affectionate, and masculine father while balancing the responsibilities of wartime leadership.
