Today’s game is Fallout 3. I finished gathering up the Radar dish today and climbed the Washington Monument to hang it up there. Honestly, seeing something like that, that I recognize from real life is just a “wow” moment. Like. You see it and approach it and there’s just this factor of “I recognize that!” Regardless of current state of things, it was cool to see in game and get to climb.
I went bumped into willow and found out about the colony of Ghouls. I didn’t know that was a thing so I’ll have to check it out on my way back. I’m curious to see what all they have going on.
I made it to Rivet City today before ending off. I had heard about it but had no idea it was a big aircraft carrier. It’s kind of cool to get to it up close. I had some trouble finding my way in though. My first attempt I tried to swim. Second I found the bridge. That was maybe 10 minutes of looking.
I went ahead and continued the main quest, along with talking to this dork who’s apparently from the institute from everything I’ve heard about him online. I love when games do this kind of stuff. Lay out little inconsequential details that end up becoming relevant later. It’s really cool to see. It does make me want to play Fallout 4 again though so maybe I’ll have to do that.
Fallout 3 is my favorite game! Glad to see others still picking it up too
Oh and def check out the medical lab in that ghoul city for one of my favorite quests!
when i first played this as a kid, i spent hours upon hours scouring that building where the radio dish was. i somehow missed it every time i passed by, felt like an idiot when i finally found it lol
I don’t think I would have found it if I wasn’t forced to sneak by the super mutants. They forced me to crouch around because they depleted my health. It made me take it slow and I saw it
As a big Fallout NV and Fallout 4 fan and somebody who is literally from the DC metro area, I fully expected to love Fallout 3. But I gotta be honest, I hated it. Maybe it’s because I was kind of working backwards, but I thought the game was so janky, but awkward, terribly paced, and like… sad in a not fun way. I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but please give me Preston’s annoying settlement missions any day of the week over the depression of Fallout 3. 🤷♂️
I mean, fair enough. I can respect that opinion, especially if we start talking the gunplay. I would take Fallout 4’s gun play over Fallout 3 any day
I mean yeah, gameplay/gunplay is no contest, but I do mean overall. Story, tone, setting, roleplaying toolkit, etc. I know people love to shit on FO4 for it’s “limited dialogue options” but having played both I frankly don’t feel like FO4 lost anything by reducing fluff and limiting response options, although I do concede that it is frustrating the way FO4’s choices are sometimes misleading or unclear.
I’m the exact opposite. I loved fallout 3 more than NV, but was super let down with fo4.
Yeah from I can tell this is the dividing line that separates Fallout fans into camps (excluding the “Fallout should never have been first-person!” grognards off in the corner). Glad we both at least have one game that matches our desires, but yeah catch me firmly over here on #teamFO4
Yeah Fallout 3’s main story is pretty much garbage. Spoiler warning for anyone who hasn’t played fallout 3 and wants too don’t read any further. You can skip a good chunk of the story if you just head straight to Smith Casey’s Garage. The vault below isn’t locked behind advancing the main quest, so you can just appear and start the Tranquility Lane simulation. From there you can go in the abandoned house and input the correct code to active the fail safe and bypass a good chunk of the main story if you really don’t want to play through most of it.
also this way will get you a key to some loot at hamiltons hideaway since three dog no longer has james location to bargain
