It doesn’t matter if it was a lie then, if we choose to live by it now.
All such political documents are aspirational. In making such statements, we seek what can be, not what is. Not in cynicism of the past, but in desire to make the future better.
Those political documents weren’t aspirational, they were PR to get the public in line with a plan rich slave owners came up with to steal another country’s colony and keep the wealth for themselves.
This has never changed. The success of this country is still borne on the back of mass exploitation, theft, and lying to keep the public from overthrowing those responsible. They’ve also done what they can to make all Americans complicit in some way, to paralyze them with both internal and external shaming. It. Hasn’t. Changed.
You want to choose to live by those words today? Good. Unfortunately, you are not in charge and you never will be unless that entire class of people stops existing.

“We, the richwhitemen”, FIFY.
“No, not those rich white men. No, not them either. Or them.”
