I think you and the next guy are over thinking it. If a camera isn’t being watched by another camera, you stand underneath it and you can’t be seen. From there you simply reach into the field of view until you can hit the lens. That’s assuming the camera doesn’t have a parallax to it, which would refract the beam to the diode while the source is still in the deadzone.
