I’ve been trying to get the non-profit I work for to get off of Shitter and onto Mastadon for months. So far, no good.
Would love to see state and local governments running their own Mastadon servers and not forcing people to accept Twitter/Facebook’s ToS’s and user tracking. I feel like I shouldn’t have to sign away any rights just to keep up with the city’s comings and goings.
Yeah, they could just post that info on their website, but it’s basically just a landing page that points you to their Facebook page 😠
Some national governments in Europe run their own instances. For example Germany runs https://social.bund.de/ and the Netherlands run https://social.overheid.nl. The EU itself has https://social.network.europa.eu/.
All of them have accounts for government organizations and elected officials.
That’s the dream here, but they all run rogue Facebook pages and just link to those from their official government websites. It’s a nightmare.
