Mod deleted his account. I guess the spiritual successor to !mena@lemm.ee is !arabs@lemmy.dbzer0.com ?
Seems the most popular alternatives would be:
Also, the animation link seems broken, here’s another one: https://lemm.ee/post/65945910?scrollToComments=true
Thanks, repaired
For Lego, !lego@piefed.social could probably be considered as the one, especially with the mod of the former community now a mod there
Nice recap!
For !yurop@lemm.ee , there’s kind of a (friendly) split
- !casualeurope@piefed.social for casual conversations between Europeans
- !YUROP@feddit.org for memes about European politics
(The link on your post seems broken on voyager)
Nice, any recs on where the users should move to?
If you are looking for a small and stable instance you should evaluate lemmy.today. It’s hosted in the U.S. (Pacific North West) and has a high degree of federation.
Join small instances please. People need to stop congregating into only the largest ones.
Thats a weird thing to say
No, it’s a very common viewpoint around here.
Why would that be weird? It’s literally the point of a decentralized system. If everyone congregates into a few big instances then that leads to more centralization. Be smarter please.
Why? It’s the point of Lemmy, being able to participate in communities regardless of where they’re hosted and where your account is registered.
Best: small instances with a stable admin team.
Because we dont want people to lose their home instance again in a few months if a hobby server instance shuts down
Bookmarked. Great initiative.
Time for casual conversation’s yearly migration.
This is a very useful resource, thank you!!
Thank you for doing this
!conservative@lemm.ee is dead.
There’s an active conservative community at !Conservatives@hilariouschaos.com
Now I am seeing, what .ee and sh.it’s conservative communities has done there…
Yeah, it’s a tad complicated. There’s a few communities dedicated to making fun of conservatives, but the hilarious chaos one is the only real replacement for the original conservative community.
I wonder if there’s a reason so many people make fun of them…
Because Lemmy is built by communists, the big instance admins and most users are far left.
I will repeat my comment from yesterday.
the following communities have already an alternative on instances that I run
- !artporn@lemm.ee -> !artporn@sfw.community
- !football@lemm.ee -> !football@soccer.forum
- !keitrucks@lemm.ee -> !keitrucks@gearhead.town
- !monitors@lemm.ee -> !monitors@hardware.watch
All these instances have been running for close to two years and are part of the “topic-specific” network of servers that I set up to help during the migration.
1 of the 4 have any activity.
The communities were created, it doesn’t mean that they have people using them. I’m just hoping now that the people will be forced to move out of lemm.ee that maybe this change can be done to these topic-specific instances.
Maybe post this at !keitrucks@lemm.ee? (Artporn and monitors seem to be already going to PieFed)
!wales@lemm.ee is aware, https://lemm.ee/post/65857349
I took over !adultswim@lemm.ee after the creator disappeared but instead of remaking it I’m going to direct people to the unaffiliated !adultswim@adultswim.fan
I’ve been around still, mostly just lurking for a couple of minutes at a time. With Lemm.ee shutting down, I have no problem with that. You can fully take over this community.
Hey, sorry for the confusion. Hope you make a new account somewhere. Maybe migrate your song posting community to piefed since you’ll get the backlog of posts?
Also, I’m not part of adultswim.fan I’m giving on on the community too
Gotcha, it’s all good. I’m sure adultswim.fan will be happy to have some more users. Hopefully our community will appreciate the more active community. Thanks for moderating with me!
No worries. I didn’t end up doing much anyway.
Are you considering migrating your music posts to piefed? I hear it not hard if you want a. Ore permanent archive.
From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem to be a great process and requires an account from the instance you want to transfer to, to have been subscribed since the beginning. It also doesn’t seem to transfer comments or anything.
I’m thinking about how I want to approach this. I might honestly move to a mastodon, or bluesky setup, with a couple of YouTube playlists. I have no idea. I honestly didn’t see the notice for my instance shutting down until I saw your comment, so kind of running through the options. I’ll likely make a local backup of the pages, so I don’t lose what was posted and maybe manually start posting everything wherever I decide to go. I’m going to make a community post soon in my communities, but I need to nail down where I’m going first.
Truly appreciate the heads up. I have no idea how I didn’t see this in my feed the past few days.
Any chance of using the !-format for the links in the list? makes it easier to just visit and subscribe
Unfortunately, this will not work as
[description](link)
formatfor the links to a discussion, yes. But for a link to the community which has been decided, it’s probably more user friendly to just do the exclamation mark style instead of a normal link
I want instance name to be exposed and exclamation mark style works like this for Lemmy and PieFed, but not for Mbin.
Mbin shows only a comm… magazine logo and its name, but instance URL is hidden.
Of course this is manageable as I could make a disclaimer for mbinauts… but not today.
ah, makes sense. didn’t know that mbin hides the instance. Maybe as an additional link after the current one?
In any case: thanks for the work so far! Great service
Mbin shows only a comm… magazine logo and its name, but instance URL is hidden.
Hmm.
That’s a little annoying, but if you have your mouse hover over the name, it looks like mbin has a pop-up showing the instance.
