Are those 2 networks federated ?
like the recent video app, its just tapping into blueskys existing centralized feed, I dont like how bluesky pretends to be federated down to letting you use your own domain
Its just a blueksy frontend with just pics I thought? Is the at protocol not open?
Of course we didnt learn that centralization and billionaires are cancer. Lets build another centralized shithole.
Some people never do 🤷 I’m just wondering what people will do once BlueSky becomes the shithole we expect it to be. Maybe by then people will see the fediverse as the next place to swarm?
Well hello there! Long time no see.
Yeah, lets see what happens.
This will keep happening until Lemmy etc. Have good UX
For the vast majority of users the UX just sucks for most of the fediverse
We need to push for or fund better UX
The funny thing is that this is completely impossible. Only very few, very big or very lucky projects have decent ux and i would even ague that they are THAT much better than proprietary stuff under the hood that they are still comically bad in comparison to their technical prowess.
The reason for this - and yes you will probably disagree - is the shit legislation we have accepted over the past decades. People got addicted to overpolished shitapps with gambling mechanics and dark patterns. The way out is gonna be brutal.
So no, we wont get better ux, preriod. We pay for it or we get buttfu**ed by big tech some more. One way to ensure payment is voting as comically left as you can.
I feel like that depends on the frontend you use which is one of the coolest parts, using Photon https://phtn.app/ I find the UX actually better than Reddit’s
Yes it does depend on the front end.
But that’s the thing its not the default front end.
Most users will give up before discovering Photon.
The default experience should be very smooth and require little to no effort and thinking. Like what everyone has gotten used to
And Voyager is basically Apollo reborn
Voyager is just as good as Reddit now. Lemmy feels real and not full of bots. I’m starting the switch over now.
LMAO the UX on Voyager, my lemmy client blows any reddit free client by a long shot. The UX is excellent. My experience here is much more enjoyable than it is on Reddit. No ads, no suggested content, easy to post, reply, add an image, edit, easy to navigate comments etc. Reddit sucks man.
I can’t tell you how to on-boarding process is these days but the UX of using Lemmy via Voyager is even better than using Reddit. In fact Reddit killing Apollo (the app Voyager is based off of) is the whole reason I’m here
I had a look at voyager, and it’s UX is perfect for new users. It would be great to get the web to that point https://photon.lemmy.world/ seems quite good, maybe that should be default.
Really anything is better than the default UI. The default Lemmy-ui is functional but not elegant.
Dam they’re really doing it. They’re taking whats been build here and making a corporate clone.
« They » is « a full-stack developer whose work has largely focused on working with web technologies ». You show you dislike lone developers building their own apps.
Well it’s the concept of not being fediverse. Point is one great developer running everything is awesome. However he’s tying it into bluesky… which also while it seems great on the surface right now, is still basically positioned that if it sells out it could be just as corrupted as Dorseys previous project
I dislike bluesky. This app is built on bluesky and therefore I can lump it in with bluesky.
Since bluesky is a centrally controlled for profit platform. It will eventually close its doors to projects like pinksky once it gets big enough. So what is to celebrate?

Not really. The above person said I hate lone developers building their own apps. No, I just dont care unless its on a platform that aligns with my ideals.
I dont see any valve in apps built that help transition people into another corporate social media ecosystem. In 5 years bluesky will make the same userhostile choices of facebook, reddit, instagram, twitter.
Given how things are going, I bet you’re right. Maybe Musk will create a Bluesky instance (or whatever that federalized yet centralized thing is called).
@RemindMe@mstdn.social in 5 years to check on the state of bluesky
@onlinepersona Ok, I will remind you on Tuesday Feb 12, 2030 at 8:47 AM UTC.

The person you are replying to is talking about pink sky being built on bluesky, and you equate that to Lemmy being based on Reddit. One is a hard technical dependency, and the other is a conceptual inspiration.
You are engaging in an equivocation fallacy, and I think you know that. You even try to sneak it in by switching to a different but similar word (built->based) with a different meaning, then you switched back again to “built” while using the term in the same way you used “based”, then you start using other phrasing to obscure it even more. You are gaslighting with word games to try and get people to not notice your fallacy. It’s super dishonest.
I thought Bluesky was a messaging app like Twitter, not a code editor.
Cool idea. But no thanks:

We consider bluesky as part of fediverse
It’s not federated. There is no roadmap to actual federation.
The code is open, so it’s possible that some dedicated devs may one day spin up a version that is actually federated under a different name.
I see that I forgot to add a question mark and incurred the wrath of some very opinionated lemmy users.
