Yeah, my point was more that both Manjaro and Ubuntu are systematically mismanaged derivatives of brilliant upstream distros with regular blunders in their development process, but with inexplicably large communities.

More like Ubuntu is to Debian what Manjaro is to Arch. And then Linux Mint takes the nice stuff from Ubuntu but does away with the bullshit.

AFAIK the two are identical, and words such as “how”, “do” and “what” are mostly ignored by the engine. The only content words in both are “apple” “pie” and “recipe”/“cook”.

Cinnamon is hands down my favourite DE. I always see people talking about GNOME and KDE, to me Cinnamon is the best of both worlds. Strongly recommend it with the Orchis GTK theme, which is made for GNOME but works fine on Cinnamon.

My favourite graphical app in the more traditional sense is Firefox. If CLI apps are allowed, I’m a big fan of GNU Nano, a CLI-based minimalistic editor, basically Emacs Lite.

Wether Telegram cares is beside the point. The original comment explained why Telegram is inconvenient for the CCP, to which you interject that it is not E2EE. All conversations on Telegram are encryted in one way or another, which is a major problem for the CCP, and people who desire privacy and use Telegram are likely to go out of their way and use the E2EE feature as well. Regular chats being decrypted in the backend is uncool for sure, but if you live under an oppressive regime that murders dissidents and their families, targeted ads are the least of your worries.

Telegram may not be good for theday-to-day privacy needs of the West, but it’s pretty great for fighting oppression. Not only is it encrypted, no other encrypted messenger (that I know of) has the organisational utilities that Telegram has, such as channels and 200k groups. If I had to organise any sort of dissident activism in an oppressive, censorship-happy state, I’d probably use Telegram.

1. Some people are going to care enough about the CCP not reading their chats to use Secret Chats… and those people are exactly the ones the CCP wants to spy on, so it’s a problem.

2. Even without Secret Chats, messages are still encrypted, just not E2E encrypted. They are encrypted until they reach Telegram’s servers, where they are decrypted, backed up, reencrypted and forwarded to the recipient. This is done to enable chat synchronisation across devices, but all chats, Secret or not, are encrypted at all points outside of Telegram’s servers. The CCP doesn’t control the servers, ergo the CCP can’t see the chats (unless they find a way to snoop on the user end, but this is harder for them to do and easier for users to circumvent).

It’s not even about sides. There is no left wing party in the USA - the Democrats are a right wing party. The problem with the GOP is not that they are right wing, it’s that they are extremists. A lot of their “policies” are not policies, they are crimes against humanity. 'People who are demographic X shouldn’t have the basic human right of Y" is not an opinion, a policy or justifiable in any way.

And boycotting people as Eich is first and foremost an act of self-preservation.

1. Eich is, evidently, a hateful cunt who invests into destroying the human rights of random people. By exposing your e-mail, bank accounts, your communications and your identity to him (by using his browser), you are inviting him to violate your rights as well.
2. By using Brave’s shit, you giwe Eich money. Thot same money he later uses to fund the atrocities he and his peers commit. Thus, by using Brave’s shit, you are not only complacent in these crimes, but actively participating.
3. Less relevant, but still, by using a Chromium-based browser, you help inflate Google’s oppressive market share in the browser space, letting them push shit like Mv3 or WEI. If Brave actually cared about making a private and secure browser and fighting Google’s monopoly, they’d base off Gecko or, better yet, build their own engine.

Supporting politicians you like and supporting basic human rights being taken away on the basis of completely arbitrary factors outside one’s control are two very different things.
