Maybe I just like being responsible in a way I’m incredibly good at; can’t say the same for all my irl responsibilities.

Yes, same; the real solution is Linux podium with an adapter in every room by default. But that’s not happening anytime soon, lol.
Technically it’s not the projector with the issue either, the podium is more or less a very fancy hub with a monitor built in. I feel like the adapter could just be built in if necessary, lol.
Yes but it’s generally easier and less prone to issues to just open their PowerPoint (or really, Google sheets) on the podium since I’m already using it. I’m sure the admin uses adapters as their excuse not to update the hardware though… (even if they are still using Win 11 on decades old computers).

Games@lemmy.world•Day 690 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playingEnglish
5·3 days agoFarm rupees? I swear I couldn’t get rid of rupees fast enough, the RA achievements for the Wii version of the game required every chest opened and that version wouldn’t let you open a chest if you had too many rupees. Donating it all was top priority; I didn’t even do bug turn ins until way later.
I just want to share that last semester, the Windows podium computer we used decided randomly to update during a student presentation. It did not help their nerves, but I did turn it into a chance to evangelize Linux.
And no, they can’t use their own laptop, the connections to the podium computer, and thus the projector, use VGA…
Err… my LGs screen saver is random paintings, which is either an LG thing or a WebOS thing. You don’t even pick the paintings.
I’m a bit more concerned it’s on the floor directly but that’s just because I’ve got toddlers and that’s always my first instinct now. That TV is in danger!
Maybe not my biggest pro, but I was able to customize my UI way more than I ever could on Windows. I made an FFIX theme for my wife and I might make an Earthbound theme for myself whenever I get around to figuring out how to make a customized window style.
Is the phone integration a iPhone thing? My KDE Connect app lets me text and share files pretty easily, plus a few other nifty features, but I use Android.
Given the trouble going through Pokemon boxes and that Bill’s PC is clearly a server, I doubt there’s any desktop environment. The real question is which distribution is being used…
If it’s a lane closure, yes, you zipper merge at the end-- imo, because you need visual confirmation of what’s happening but also because it’s predictable and usually both lanes are already matching speeds and zipper merging ahead of you. There’s no need to complicate things with an early swap. Granted, I rarely see a lane closure warning more than 100 meters, if at all… in my tiny car, the best indicator that we’re merging is sudden lane changes of everyone in front of me.
Where I draw the line is when there’s an exit only lane on a freeway and people are zooming along and suddenly want in. Did they jump into that lane just to get ahead? Or are they a helpless victim of circumstance from the latest onramp and unable to merge until now? I let them in, but I’m usually bitter about it.
It’s rare, but I think they’re referring to when it’s open enough and running at optimal speeds. It happened the other day on a side street during an off hour, the free lane couldn’t cut to the front without going like 70mph in a 40mph zone.
Of course a muscle car did just that, but still.
I’ve been using OnlyOffice, although I bet LibreOffice can open them too. That doesn’t convert files unless I save, but it doesn’t seem to me up the formatting either. I used to have to bulk convert using a Google drive plugin, which could help for bulk conversation but isn’t a FOSS solution.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Gabe Newell on Steam monopoly accusations: Gamers have 'enormous choice' about where to buy gamesEnglish
91·8 days agoI mean, they develop and maintain Proton yet they don’t even prohibit you from using it on other things. If literally any company did that, their shareholders would riot…
…so I don’t think it technically qualifies as a monopoly, but they probably could have had a legal monopoly using an exclusivity patent on the tech (although they technically can’t patent the whole thing because it’s based on Wine, but they could have done this in a way that they could have).
What’s rather ironic is my Linux FOSS setup is more compatible than ever because it can open my students .notes and .pages files, while MS Word couldn’t.
And naturally, I’m proud of using FOSS so I guess I’m proud to be compatible with everything.

World News@lemmy.world•"China is a superpower, but we know nothing about them. Can you name 3 alive chinese people right now ?" Question leaves guests embarassed on french television English
8·8 days agoAny Chinese people? Because I’ve got several Chinese friends and coworkers I could name but probably wouldn’t on live TV, lol.
I’ve got the same setup but I found the issue wasn’t the hardware but a driver conflict with my Nintendo Gameboy Printer. I was able to rollback and get it working fine.

5·12 days agoI mostly ever use Octopi if I can’t think of the spelling of the name of an app I want, it’s terrible for exploration.
Otherwise, I just command line my installs, it makes me feel cool and pacman goes waka waka waka.

Animemes@ani.social•Classic dubs seemed so much better. Now most dubs seem unwatchable
2·12 days agoGood way to put it; I’ve been a subs person for anime as long as I remember but I make an exception for games, I think in large part because they consult the devs more during localization. When anime does that, it seems to hit those two points.

I’ve had a 40 year old body for like, 25 years. I’m not 40 yet.
