You can label it as a trendy new tech term, but it is the age old yes-manism that I have watched eat up tech executives and CEOs that I have worked with.

The real work of software engineering isn’t the coding. That is like saying that being a doctor is all about reading health charts. Planning, designing, testing and maintaining software is the hard part, and it is often much more political than it is a technical challenge. I’m not worried about getting replaced by AI. In fact, LLMs ability to generate high volumes of code only makes the skills to understand it to be more in demand.

Game mode doesn’t have a browser. I would be interested to find out of the steamdeck sales almost directly correlate to this increase. Not that I am complaining, it’s a great way to use a linux desktop experience. I didn’t really read how these numbers were measured.

The other explanation I could think of is that linux desktop is being adopted widely in India. I don’t think that government’s adopting linux desktop accounts for a significant portion of the machines.

That also helps linux. Tried watching something on someone else’s peacock account logged into Linux, and got an error. Checked Google to see if it was available. A free site had it, in better quality streaming too! We ended up using her computer, but I was kind of amazed.

What right does valve have to discriminate against devs and publishers who are selling their game on other platforms? They have to compete for their business, not punish them for having a game that is more successful on another store that gives a higher revenue cut to the dev and a lower price to the customer.

8f your in enterprise software, this stuff is pretty malleable. You are regularly asked to give pitches and lectures on medical projects, for sales reasons. You would be surprised - most people that work on this stuff have no idea the fist thing about medicine.

My Mom’s a doctor, so I can ask her to have a bit of insight about this stuff. The challenges facing healthcare don’t have that much to do with technology, at least in the US.

I’m in all the business meetings. “Use Chatham to save time generating analysis” or something like that. I think it has been proven that merely using it as a tool to generate content isn’t profitable- at some level even your paid subscription is subsidized by VC money. The real test is if it provides “valuable” content. But then why does your employer even need you to make the prompts? Don’t worry, I believe LLMs are fundamentally incapable of this and that your job is safe.

Lol. I will believe it when I see it. I don’t think LLMs especially will do that much good in Healthcare, and I would be particulary wary of them diagnosing patients. Aside from some very limited signal analysis for telehealth, I am very wary on the applications of “new” AI on healthcare. I believe it will be a disaster.

Yeah, hasn’t anyone else noticed that there hasn’t been a single profitable product to come out of it? Even copilot is biting the dust already as they try to reduce computing costs. I also haven’t heard of a single person actually paying for chatgpt access either…

Long term, google will demand our identity to serve video data to us, even if only out of principle. I just think that service will degrade in the pursuit of more price extraction.

I have a longer term project to decouple my identity and property from online services. Part of the reaso thnat I am also on lemmy in the first place. With google products, it is becoming clear that anonymous use is really the only answer.

Yeah, I definitely agree, and haven’t looked into all the options yet. It is pretty logical that they would catch on to stuff like free-tube very quickly. But I still think the only reasonable posture is to view video content anonymously, until google goes the twitter route and demands that you identify yourself to watch a video. They kind of already do that for mature content.

Yeah, I thinknthebmost important aspect of these things is that we have to start consuming video without letting Google track our activity. Whether it is Freestone or another client, this means tacking our own video preferences and searching for likewise content manually.

I am a bit worried that long term, Google will simply withold video content. Without the ability to track users, and be the definitive authority on what a view means, Google really has no reason to stream video to people for free. Eventually, Google, in their desperation will resort to more and more forceful measures to track people who watch your videos - invalidating your Google account and cutting off your access to drive, maps, and search is a possibility.

It is prudent to get off of their client and go private now. But we also have to think about replacing the backend, similar to how lemmy is replacing the reddit backend. Peertube exists, but it is a much heavier lift for self hosting. I would also want to see a client that is committed to mixing youtube videos with peertube bidoes, or other backends before it is too late.

I would just caution anyone that blocking ads while logged into your Google account is probably a bad idea if you care about still watching videos there. Google will grow more desperate to show tracked ads to users.

The only ling term solution is to seek to watch YouTube e videos in a private way. Freestone is a good start. New piped and individuals look promising as well. I’m still researching a good long term solution.
