help-circle

  • I used to be an EMT (am going to be working as one again soon) and where I worked we had some good cops and some real shitty cops who had no business being cops, but one thing that they all had in common was that the rules were if someone asked for medical help, they had to call the ambulance. Didn’t matter if it looked like obvious bullshit, all the departments in the area I worked had a blanket policy that they weren’t medical professionals and they couldn’t make that decision. You could have a tiny little cut on your finger and ask for medical help and even the shittiest cops would sigh and call for EMS. These cops infuriate me. How many more people have to get murdered? If someone asks for help fucking help them and sort out the details later.

  • Genuine question, I just tried this on my phone with both Firefox and Brave (my backup browser). Why does Firefox leak so much more data than Brave? Brave pretty much only showed which number version of Android I’m running and my time zone, Firefox showed all kinds of unique data including all the sensor readings from my phone, how many cameras it has, all the hardware components, and that fingerprint reading is allowed and I have all my settings as strict as they can be. I thought Firefox was supposed to be the way better option.

  • Thank you! This is all good advice. I’ve never actually used a VM but will have to do more research on installing and using one. When you (and everyone else here) say shrink the partition from inside windows, do you mean from within the disk management software? I’m familiar with that, having added extra drives on my other computers. I actually have 3 computers, 2 laptops and a gaming rig I built, but they both have Nvidia GPUs and I’ve heard so many bad things about Nvidia and Linux and I don’t want my first Linux experience to be fighting it out with those. If I like Linux I’ll probably switch one of my other computers over to Linux either entirely or on one of the second drives (both my other computers have 2 different drives).

  • My school uses MS for a bunch of the logins. 2FA is setup through your phone, which isn’t annoying or anything. So anytime I login, I need my phone handy, and then I have to type in the stupid code into my phone and then a password to approve it and then maybe 25% of the time it decides me clicking “yes this is me” actually means “no, deny!” and boots me out and then I have to authenticate a different way. And if I sign into a different school website that uses the same damn MS login it kicks me from any other school websites I’m currently logged into so I have to log back into them even if they’re still open in another tab and I’m actively working in then. So yeah, I’d like to think I’m smart, but I’d definitely just rush through another MS authentication request because I’m so damn sick of them.

  • When my cat was a very little kitten he didn’t quite realize he wasn’t human and would sleep in bed with the humans, tucked in under the blanket on his back with his head on the pillow. If one of us got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night he’d get up and go use the litter box. Our bedroom was down the hallway from the bathroom and the litter box was in the room across the hall from the bathroom so you’d turn one way into the bathroom and he’d turn the other way to the litter box. If he finished first, he’d sit in the hallway and wait until you were done and go back to bed with you, and if you finished first you could hear him frantically trying to clean the litter box as quickly as possible and I’d always stay in the hallway and wait for him to finish so we could complete the ritual together. Gosh I miss when he was a little guy.

When I was a kid my mom used to get American cheese sliced behind the deli counter all the time and they always gave us the slices in a stack and it never combined.

I can’t stand American cheese, nasty fake stuff, but I got cheddar cheese slices behind the deli the other week for the first time in awhile. Instead of just slicing it and giving it to me in a bag like every other time in my life, they individually wrapped every slice in a thin plastic. I got home and was like what in the plastic hell is this? So wasteful and it was a real PITA unwrapping it all.
