In an obscure post, a Mozilla MLE announced a ClawBot ripoff specifically targeted at at tradespeople (electricians, plumbers, roofers, handymen) for help with administrative tasks like scheduling, explaining invoices, etc.

It’s not an AI designed to do electrical work, plumbing or whatever. It’s for admin work like dealing with invoices. This has been my point the this entire time so I don’t get what you are referring to? Is your context window full or what 🤣

How will they get worse at the part of their job the actually matters if they got an AI that helps them with invoices?

Overconfidence in what exactly, invoices? Who gives a shit! Stop acting like improper invoices or some other admin shit is in anyway dangerous. This is just fear mongering

Someone that’s dangerous without AI is dangerous with AI. Someone that knows how to do their job isn’t dangerous with AI.

It’s the same in Sweden and so what? I doubt this AI will be generally available or at least that the public would like to use an AI designed for invoices and shit to wire a plug.

And in Sweden at least, you are only allowed to wire a plug if you know what you are doing.

Do you seriously think any tradespeople will just forget how to do their job just because of some stupid accounting and admin task AI?

I mean it’s accounting and admin stuff. So it’s not dangerous. Worst case scenario is that they loose money or I guess it’s theoretically possible that they “accidentally” commit tax fraud or something but that is obviously their own fault and it’s not really dangerous.

If an actual electrician AI existed (and not this administrative task AI) it might be dangerous for normal people to use it. But if an actual authorized electrician uses an AI to do unsafe work they are a terrible electrician and shouldn’t be an electrician in the first place.

If an AI is used by an electrician and it results in them doing unsafe work. They are a terrible electrician that would do unsafe work without AI and should lose their license yesterday.

It’s just an AI for assisting with various stuff tradespeople don’t necessarily know. It’s not designed to do the job of actual tradespeople.

It might be stupid but it’s not like it’s a safety issue or anything and if it were they are fully unqualified for their trade anyways.

It’s a whole lot of nothing, except a waste of money for Mozilla and everyone else involved.

Yeah, I have never once been force updated by windows despite using it for many years. Why? Because I update my fucking computer like you should.

Doesn’t Linux require Kernel updates quite often though? Pretty sure those require a reboot.

Sure rebooting is annoying but you only have to do it 12 times a year so it really doesn’t matter that much unless you computer runs on tape or something.

Updating servers can by experience be more annoying though due to shitty applications that need manual intervention.
But clients are no problem.

P.S While not relevant to home users, windows nowadays be fully patched without rebooting for 2 out of 3 updates. You do have to pay for it with extra licenses though. I assume Linux also can be hot patched in a similar way (but maybe for free?) but normally it’s not.

Considering the fact that most home users would never ever update their PCs unless forced too and then complain about a virus they got. It kinda makes sense to force people to update.

The same applies in any professional environment. Not forcing updates to clients in a professional environment is very stupid and will land you in trouble sooner or later.

Not sure if it counts but chatbot support in the sidebar has existed for quite some time now.

I mean it’s technically possible. But don’t really believe that to be the case. Either why, in my opinion we one shouldn’t spread information or theories without any concrete evidence at all. It’s not like I feel sorry for Google or whatever I’m just tired of the constant misinformation and conspiracy theories.

The Pixel might be subsidized to get Android some more market share from Apple, or earn more money Google Play Store sales or whatever. Subsidizing your phone business just to collect more data might make some sense unless you are Google which already knows everything about everyone.

Sure but if Google wanted to push the devices onto people because of tracking purposes wouldn’t they also make them cheaper to buy outright?
