2·14 days agoSpoiler tag is very useful in this case. No need to traumatize or retraumatize everyone.

23·14 days agoThat can all be had without brutal details, plus details can be hidden behind spoilers. It’s not that hard.

23·14 days agoThe post isn’t “here’s a story about rape”, the post is “Western media are downplaying what is rape”, it’s about the media.

29·14 days agoTrue but the point is that the media aren’t calling it rape, so the discussion may not need to divulge all the brutality. A spoiler tag could be used and you can choose to read about it or choose to believe it’s rape without reading about it and then both go on to discuss the media and their cowardice.

World News@lemmy.world•Zohran Mamdani wins NYC mayor's race, capping a stunning ascentEnglish
5·17 days agoThis is local but the fascist takeover of America is not local, given the rise of the far right together and American bad actors funding and working abroad. So this news of someone on the left with a major win becomes relevant in the worldwide context.

17·1 month agoNot at all. I read the whole thing expecting that I would get bored of some rambling like is often the case, but here I am having read all the way through. There’s something so good about reading an articulate angry rant that ends when it needs to.

3·2 months agoI’m a big fan. Seen all her specials and saw her live this year. She is a big talent. I’m happy for her. In other words, I don’t think it’s that good bits are being promoted, they’re all good bits.

Probation period is commonly 6 months during which time it’s basically at will employment. This is the time to figure out your hire and deal with it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Roblox, Discord sued after 15-year-old boy was allegedly groomed online before he died by suicideEnglish
81·2 months agoYeah, I think there’s more that platforms can do to help but I don’t think age verification or reading messages is it either.
What really annoys me is how people will go… Parents should parent… But then nobody is helping them figure out the best way to parent a child on apps. How are they supposed to know what to do? They’re probably not on Roblox themselves, don’t know anyone who is, don’t understand it, don’t know how best to talk about it with their kid, etc. Parental controls are great but not enough, parents need help to do the best thing. They aren’t all knowing and this shit is changing all the time.
I think it’s the responsibility of parents to parent but it’s also the duty of the company to help them understand their product and how best to help their kid and it’s the duty of us all to look out for the most vulnerable in society.

40·2 months ago"Roblox allowed Ethan to turn off the parental controls "
If true, this is very damning for Roblox.
Parents can’t be everywhere all the time checking what they already set up, that’s unrealistic.
I could give you great stories about the benefits of working from home too.
I agree we are social animals but we are also in varying life stages, we have different needs and wants, we are diverse as a species. Flexibility is the answer, not one size fits all now and forever.

Yeah there’s also the issue of how much time someone has available to spend on their system. In a lot of cases, it simply isn’t a big part of someone’s life and the spend the least amount of time on it. All of a sudden they’re going to spend the time to learn about this new and huge thing and then do it themselves?
