Technology@lemmy.world•Meta patented an AI that lets you keep posting after you dieEnglish
2·3 days agoUm. Can it start shitposting on my behalf so I can quit completely?
It also feels great when you lose enough blood.
TIL about Zulip, thank you.
Back in 2009, I was there, saw the release of Bitcoing on Slashdot news. I had a computer on 24/7 because I was working on my thesis. Minin on CPU was feasible. I thought it could be a cool experiment to have a bit, just for fun. I never bothered with the hassle of actually running the miner on those very first days with the CPU and electricity I had from my uni for free.
And how is that a problem? Too powerful? Too scalable? Can handle more users than you need?
We use it for a corporation of 20 people just fine.
Has anyone tried Mattermost? It’s modeller after Slack mostly.

Technology@lemmy.world•Ad blocking is alive and well, despite Chrome's attempts to make it harderEnglish
1·8 days agoI use Ad Nausaem (probably butchered the spelling) Firefox plugin on my home PC for that. Instead of blocking ads, it hides them into a sandbox and “clicks” on all of them in the background. Won’t use it on anything battery-powered though.
I actually forgot about it.

As a caffeine addict, having a little bit in the evening actually helps me sleep.

6·13 days agoBad for everyone who is not filthy rich. For those it will be tad bit unpleasant at worst. And that’s our main problem.

The big problem is, every good privacy-respecting solution costs money and comes with the inconvenience of setting up a new account. Having lived 90s Internet I don’t mind that at all, I actually kind of prefer it, but I can understand how younger folks can be discouraged.
