  • I’m not positive, but I may have run into this guy on Spotify. Several months ago I was listening to Spotify and was recommended two songs in a row that sounded very similar, but had very subtle differences in them. For instance, the baseline in one was slightly altered, and the main synthesisor sounded slightly different. But the overall rhythm and melody were more-or-less the same.

    I was able to find 100s of versions of what were essentially the same song with a different title, artist and album art. I made a playlist of them all, but it looks like Spotify removed all but two of the songs I had added:

    Obsidian Sisterhood by Aggaraway

    Konnual by The Sirens

    Edit: just found another one. Beasratis by Olrul

  • A mnemonic is usually a way to memorize the order of a group of hard-to-remember words or phrases. You come up with a set of easy to remember words, or a phrase that starts with the same first letter of the harder to memorize words. For example, Every Good Boy Does Fine is a mnemonic to help people remember the lines on a musical note staff (E, G, B, D, F). For most people, it is easier to remember the phrase “Every Good Boy Does Fine” than to remember E, G, B, D, F so if you can remember the mnemonic, it makes it easier to remember the things that you’re actually trying to remember.

    In the picture, the mnemonic is “Lisa Likes Licking Lettuce Lightly” which is supposed to be used to help someone remember the great Lakes. However, notice how every word in the mnemonic starts with the same letter (L) and is used to memorize the Lakes which also all start with L. This makes the mnemonic pretty useless.

    A proper mnemonic for the lakes would be something like “Super Heros Must Eat Oats” (Superior, Huron, Michigan, Erie, Ontario).

  • Has anybody actually read the bill?

    The whole bill is about giving the government power to ban “foreign adversary controlled applications” and there’s nothing about the president being able to ban whatever app they want.

    The bill defines a foreign adversary as: “a country specified in section 4872(d)(2) of title 10, United States Code”:

    • The People’s Republic of China, including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China);

    • Republic of Cuba (Cuba);

    • Islamic Republic of Iran (Iran);

    • Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea);

    • Russian Federation (Russia); and

    • Venezuelan politician Nicolás Maduro (Maduro Regime).

    So unless you are on the side of the enemies of the US and want social media apps controlled by them, I don’t know why you wouldn’t support this bill.

    Edit: I think the misunderstanding/misinformation comes from a few places, but ultimately I think it boils down to the fact the bill requires the app/platform to be a foreign adversary AND it requires a presidential executive order before the app will be banned.
