I mean everyone added together, mortgage, car payment, various insurance premiums, utilities, groceries, etc
My mortgage is $1200 of that, though.

While you’re completely correct, the cost of living in America is also much higher than than the world median.
What we really should be looking at is the ratio of pay : cost of living but raw salary is just easier for the masses to see and be mad about.
As an example, 3.5k USD is about my monthly bills.
I imagine they could if they knew exactly what you did and when, but if it doesn’t get discovered until later and nobody knows what happened, it would probably be a bitch to figure out
You could certainly make the argument that reddit / Lemmy and anything similar is social media, but the anonymity means you aren’t seeing or competing with people you know.
Idk, maybe I’m just coping, but I’ve never felt the need to do anything performative for the masses of internet strangers - unlike some friends of mine who studiously document anything fun we do for the ever important task of impressing people on Instagram.
Whenever the negative effects of social media come up, it tends to be about people comparing their “boring” lives with the carefully crafted veneer of other people’s lives they see on social media. That doesn’t happen (as much) when you don’t use your identity and you don’t know anybody else on the platform.
We’re a long way off from iron man type shit, but yeah this is the path to getting there. It’ll probably take decades but hopefully we can iron out the kinks and inconveniences to not so much “solve” problems vs normal screens, but elevate our ease of access and capabilities.
Consciousness can’t be made… Right now. What’s to stop us from doing so eventually?
I’m sure millennia back people also said “lightning can’t possibly be controlled” and now we use it to make rocks do math so we can shitpost
I went on a deployment, got a nice gaming laptop for that. When I got home back to my desktop, I basically had no need for it so I hooked it up to my living room TV. At first I just played some controller friendly games on it, but now I use it as the entire media center with Stremio and qbittorrent and the likes. I use unified remote to have my phone as the remote.
My first ever time playing DnD, I was a rogue so I naturally approached every door with “can I try to pick it?”
Worst that happened was the DM describes me making an idiot of myself, twiddling with lockpicks for five minutes before noticing it’s just unlocked :P
That’s funny, I saw that first comment by toiute in the wild and thought it was really strange. Lemmy seems like such a waste of time as a platform to promote scams. Very low population (relative to other social media) and a mostly tech-savvy crowd.
Good work! Glad to know
I think the main issue with air tag stalking is somebody else slipping their own air tags into your car, purse, backpack, etc to always know where you are
To be clear, I think they were asking about streaming torrents. Stremio with torrentio addon, for example.
Interesting, I’ve read / heard that cats heal themselves through purring but even that was just a guess with the next leading theory being that they’ll purr when in pain to comfort themselves.
