  • Oh, sorry, alt text is such a rarity that the only place I ever check for it is XKCD. No clue who you’re calling out, tho.

If you'll allow me to be autistic for a moment to explain myself

I’ve gotten to the point of linguistic nerdery that I am just aware that there can be hundreds of regional dialectical variation among large languages like Spanish, and since I was raised with European Spanish (which likes to treat its Spanish as “real Spanish” and look down on Mexian Spanish as “y’alld’n’t’ve” troglodyte Spanish) I tried to outline that in my post. Sadly, my father was a Spaniard, so I never actually learned much Spanish.

Going in a completely different direction, since I am trying to learn Japanese I recently learned that, curiously, their name for Mexico is 墨西哥メキシコ (romanized “Mekishiko”). Not trying to correct you just a little oddity that tickles me.

  • 1st, I’m surprised no one is going for any of the low-hanging fruit: “why is my lemmy account stuck in Spanish?”, “feliz Jueves”, “Eva girl bathwater”, etc.

2nd, since I think it’s safe to assume at least some people won’t get the multilingual pun at play, the original intent of the “Agua de Rei” name is “water of (the) king” – tho I can’t be certain if it’s a local dialect quirk or a matter of marketing that it’s “de rei” and not “del rey”

  • There’s also Thanatos and probably a few other Daimones I’m forgetting or unfamiliar with you could invoke. I’m certain there’s like a dozen different Egyptian deities involved in a soul’s passage to the afterlife, Anubis is just the most popular one in modern reception. It also bugs the hell out of me that “Europe” is put up alongside three countries

Also wow, they really buffed Hermes up for Hades 2. Still haven’t seen much of that game as of yet.

  • Watch Brotherhood, not the original.

    Watch the 2024 remake.

I see someone woke up today and chose violence lol.

I kid, of course – as a lover of both versions of FMA, I understand how the slight change in tone & story appeals to different people; and I’ve yet to see the Spice & Wolf remake, I’ve just only heard about the criticisms people had with the things it changed.

  • Copy/pasting someone else’s scores both because I have trouble doing this exact thing and because the Venn diagram of my tastes to the average anime fan has nearly no overlap‡, hopefully it helps.

Ancient Magus Bride: 1/1/1. Can be enjoyed by people that don’t even know what anime is, barely any sexual content to speak of, extremely high production values.

Konosuba: 6/7/2. Requires a moderate amount of knowledge of anime tropes, specifically the isekai genre and JRPG tropes it’s lampooning. Contains an above average amount of sexual content, though it is not the focus and is generally reserved for comedy rather than genuine fanservice. Generally high production values and is very enjoyable.

Non Non Biyori: 3/0/2. Requires a surface-level knowledge of Japanese culture, but nothing too deep. Contains absolutely no sexual content whatsoever and could be shown to your grandma. High production values for a “girls doing things” show.

‡as a for instance, I practically loathe Konosuba and yet here it’s rated at a 2 on the shit scale
