despite how well-received it was among the broader anime community

I haven’t watched it myself, but I get the sense that it’s because of the animation and not much more. I’ve seen plenty glazing about how well-animated it is, but not about story or characters.

I think not wanting to travel with a crystal that nullifies your magic until you find a buyer who knows when or where is a pretty fair reason by itself tbh.

I’m dropping this. Couldn’t even get through the full ep. The shounen-like style direction is such a poor fit

Yeah, I guess that was the thing I liked in my late teens, but that’s no longer the case. Rewatching it several years back made it feel more like torture porn than anything else at times.

Used to be on my favourites for a long time, but at some point in my life I didn’t really vibe with this anime much anymore. Maybe I should give it a rewatch. I should have the DVD somewhere…

They don’t make the cut to what I consider “fan-serivce”

Yeah, that’s why I went with fan-servicey. I couldn’t really think of another word. By many other anime standards, this is nothing. Though, compared to other iyashikei-type anime, it’s more than usual I think

That cleavage picture, for example, is from the POV of the boy and shows why he might be flustered talking with the girl.

I see what you mean, but he didn’t really seem flustered by it. He had no blush, like when she was fixing his shoe, and by the time he looked away she was already standing straight again.

But also, the way it lingered made it feel otherwise to me.

I wonder if it’s just a child’s idea of an adult thing or her mother’s influence.

Probably both, but I reckon the latter part especially, given how Asa almost instantly recognized the pressure Makio was talking about.

There are a few moments that focus on her body in a more ogling way. Like this, zipping up a hoody, focusing on her chest which you see being pushed up: And this, where her cleavage is more centered than her face (and where the cleavage kinda came out of nowhere):

I don’t know how to describe these angles other than fanservicey. They’re not panty shots or anything. It’s really tame, but these shots feel pretty jarring to me, because they just don’t fit the feel of the show imo.

I’m loving this. Despite the melancholic undertones, it’s so comfortable. The way the characters act, the way the story flows, the music, the visuals. So good.

Nice, relaxing vibe, but the fanservicey moments don’t fit this.

Hmm, not sure I’m liking the direction. Feels a little overdramatic at times, like in an action drama kind of way. I’ll give it 1 more ep. Otherwise I’ll stick to the manga.

Oh you’re right. I guess I read the subs wrong because I took it (and the excalibur usage) to mean that he was Arthur (I haven’t played that FGO event, so I know nothing), but I guess he didn’t say that at all indeed. So I guess I’ve been talking BS haha. I guess I don’t know who he is after all.

Oh, right, I read FsF as FSN. My bad. Yeah, I doubt many have read those. But they revealed his name in the 1st ep too though, right? Sure, at the end, but not sure I’d call that hiding.

We have quite a few more Sabers that use red as a primary or secondary color in FGO.

Oh, yeah I know. It was an attempt at a joke that this another saberface, but we already have 2 red saberfaces with the names Red Saber and Saber of Red.

this Saber a year ago for New Year’s with his full name revealed and everything (actually coinciding with the preview release of this very episode).

Given that it coincides, why is it dumb?

I think Saber is one of the few servants in FsF where giving away their true name too early actually detracts from the experience a little.

I’m an anime only with Fate Stay Night, but I don’t think many people go into Fate Stay Night not knowing who Saber is these days tbh.
