Rush was arrested last month and charged with one count of theft of public money, accused of filing false time sheets by saying he was a member of the Naval Reserve. Some of the accusations against him in court documents are far more serious.

This article provides slightly more info. Sounds like they dined and dashed, the youngest guy punched the restaurant owner once, and unfortunately it was enough to kill him. Absolute scumbags for sure, but definitely don’t come across as murderers. They willingly came back to Canada for their trial (after fleeing and trying to hide the fact they were there) and the actual perpetrator made a seemingly genuine apology. I have nothing to say about the length of the sentence, I would need more time to think about it.
