I never saw memes calling out animal ag on that other site outside of confined spaces. Yet on Lemmy they get upvoted in larger communities.
Lemmy is amazing. Keep being the hope for the future, folks. We need it!

Meat and dairy are heavily subsidized by the government (at least in US). Government subsidies for animal agriculture allow them to sell for cheaper because they can sell for less than what it actually costs to make.
Probably being unable to buy music when I was in my teens.
No job, no income, no way to get to the store anyway, and to top it off… half the music I liked I wouldn’t have been able to find anyways. (Fan songs/parodies)
So I learned that (free) YouTube downloaders and MP3 converters existed.
A bit later than that… NES/SNES games I wanted to play but those consoles were before my time. So I learned emulators existed.
So basically stuff I didn’t have access to otherwise.
It’s sad that bACoN means more to people than the very lives of their loved ones on top of all the moral atrocities inherent in animal ag.
The top reason I don’t have hope for the future. People don’t care if the world burns and disease runs rampant if it means they get their tendies right now.
I read the answers before the question and thought “My local Walmart sells RPGs what’s the joke?”
… Thought it meant Role Playing Games. Not firearms.
Individual instances and frontends might have something to do with it. People saying they see a ton of NSFW and have to block so many communities, but at sh.itjust.works on Voyager I haven’t seen any of that.
It’s simultaneously open yet curated at the same time and that’s pretty neat!
Some music I like are fan covers/remixes that may only be on YouTube.
If you’re out of the loop: There was a Dexter’s Lab episode where the titular character could only say “Omelette du fromage” for the whole episode.
If you know that and an extended reference went over my head… oops!
This is not something I’ve heard of as someone who also doesn’t bother with fast food. Is this like, higher prices during rush hours or something?
I would pay if it were more a more affordable price.
I haven’t browsed apps in ages so idk if it’s still common, but I remember lots of apps having a lite version and a paid version. Lite version has ads and a sometimes couple less features. Full version ad-free and potential extra features.
I liked that. Let me decide if I enjoyed the app enough to pay for the better version.
Before Reddit went down in a fire, I paid premium even though I already had adblocker and no need for the premium features. And I would do the same for YouTube now, if it wasn’t so high priced.
I am consciously learning now what I think I subconsciously already knew. If I value something enough, pay for it. And I DO value YouTube’s videos. The current cost is just a bit uncomfortably steep for a monthly subscription fee.
… That’s the time of day I feel good about life.
I mean I know life sucks but I’d like to enjoy myself at the peaceful low-stress hours!
Wait there’s a community for it?
Where?
Hi I made it to 30 and no wizard powers yet.
… Wait is anticheat on? I got a hacked client that automatically disabled my desire for partnered “fun time” so it made the grind to 30 with that status effect a lot easier.
Did I miss out on wizard powers?!
For me, the loss meme always makes me lose The Game.
So the prevalence of Loss is directly correlated to my loss of The Game. And upon seeing Loss, I choose to follow the rules of The Game and let others suffer a loss as well!
I do not apologize for sharing the mental connection between the two. It amuses me.
Welp. I just loss The Game.
Carnism is simply a name of the belief system. For a long time it didn’t have a name, which is something that psychologically helps oppressors not question their own actions.
So it was given a name to help point out that it is, in fact, a belief system. The belief that eating animals and their secretions is normal, natural, and necessary.
Carnism is one hell of a drug. Hope you can escape it soon OP. Good luck.
Same for all the others here still trapped in the beliefs of carnism.
ITT people not recognizing that there’s a difference between comparing and equating.
People, it’s possible to make analogies to more serious situations without saying the two things are equal. The statement above is saying it’s there’s a shared mentality, not a shared level of consequence/seriousness.
