I primarily user Startpage and DuckDuckGo. With all the controversies surrounding it and its founder, I can’t bring myself to trusting Brave.
OP was asking about Brave’s search engine here, not the browser.
Brendan Eich was also spewing misinformation on Covid-19 during the pandemic https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/22/business/brave-brendan-eich-covid-19.html
Mozilla has set up an instance on Mastodon. But it is understandable that they have presence on mainstream social media websites since that is where most of their users are.
As others have pointed out here, Signal is a very good choice.
Discord is not FOSS and is a privacy nightmare.
I have been haunted by a bunch downvote bots recently that mass downvotes my post when I post on certain tech related communities on lemmy. I am not sure why this is happening. Since I am on kbin, I can’t see the downvotes or get affected by it anyway unless I take the effort to view the post through Lemmy though.

Oh yes, I have heard a lot of cases like this related to freenom. They deactivate domains that get traction and resell them at a premium (mostly to spammy ad networks that hoard domains).

The number of users are just stabilising. This is expected after a sudden spike in users.
Its very rare for me to find a bug on Signal. The app has been really stable over the past few years. In the rare occasions when I did come across one in the past, I reported them in the support forum.
Oh that’s my bad. I never actually realised that they are no longer open source. Am I being downvoted in lemmy.ml? If yes, then I have no idea why and don’t really care lol. I would happily support each of the projects I mentioned.
If I use WhatsApp Web, will Meta be able to see the contents of my WhatsApp messages?
Just as much as they would be able to see the contents of your messages when you use the app. The answer to this question depends on how much you trust Meta to stick to their claims. As others have already said here, use Signal if you are looking for a private messenger.
I am excited for this!
