Nix as well
I like NixOS
Nix as well
Started playing Factorio again with a friend, been fun so far. Just today I played Tooth and Tail again which is really cool, as well as Skullgirls Second Encore which I’m not great at but is still fun.
It takes some fiddling, but I’ve been using HDR on Linux since Plasma 6 came out. If you don’t have an AMD GPU it would probably be really difficult to set up though.
I love Loop Habit Tracker, I’ve been using it for almost 3 years and it works great.
Along with what others have said:
HDR (and VRR) have been working for me for the past few months (Plasma 6, AMD), but I still keep Windows around for some games and yeah there’s no way I’m trying VR on Linux. I think I get noticeably worse performance on Linux as well, I think there’s some issue I need to fix with that.
kid3 can apply metadata based on the filename if that’s useful for you (just things like title and track depending on how you name your files). I also use it for manually editing metadata once in a while, selecting multiple songs and setting the same artist or album tag is pretty easy to do.
I’m not sure how well it works as a mood tracker, but I love this app, I’ve been using it for years.
I got Far Cry 5 for like $7.50 on sale and have been playing it with a friend, and it’s actually been pretty fun, mostly driving around blowing stuff up with a rocket launcher.
I also got Doom Eternal, which has been more interesting than I expected; I thought it would be mostly just hold-left-click kind of gameplay, but you actually really need to think about managing ammo and positioning and cooldowns and tons of stuff like that. I feel really bad at it but it’s been lots of fun.
You could use yt-dlp to download the videos / channels / playlists you want to save, although they wouldn’t be available online.
I don’t really want Phoronix in my RSS, because they post so many articles every day and it would just clog everything up. I just check them once a day or so and read the interesting articles.
I check Phoronix often, and have some blogs in an RSS reader.
Are you using a scaling factor with x11 legacy apps set to be “scaled by system”? That runs them at a lower resolution and scales them up. You can fix it by either using Gamescope or changing it to x11 apps “scale themselves”.
Huh, I’ve had it run on battery for years, is there some serious bug with that? I don’t have it run on cellular data or in battery saver mode though.
My monitor (Acer XV275K P3) has a better MiniLED local dimming algorithm in HDR mode than in SDR, so even SDR content looks better that way. Also it’s annoying having to switch it back and forth, it’s way easier to just leave it in HDR mode and not worry about it.
For the washed-out colors, are you using an Nvidia, Intel, or AMD GPU? If you’re using AMD you need to run kernel 6.8 or later I believe, if you’re using DisplayPort.
I’m not sure why your display lets you adjust contrast in HDR mode, I would just leave it at the default imo.
Generally you would use flakes to enable third party repos, although there are ways to do it without flakes. With flakes, third party repos work basicallly the same way as the main repo. Chaotic Nyx is one repo, and it also explains how to set it up. There’s also ones like Nixified AI.
Yeah, same for me with NixOS
Like 4 or 5 years ago I bought a refurbished Pixel 2 XL for like $150 or $200 or something. Works great, I don’t need to upgrade (although storage is a little small). The only issue is it hasn’t had security updates since 2020 which is a little scary.
