There might be a discussion if it’s really helpful to mirror stuff from Reddit to Lemmy, but I feel that this is the discussion every community needs to have on its own. In my humble opinion, it is totally okay to try to kickstart a community by implementing some kind of automated system to post content. Nobody will post to an empty forum and if a forum shows some activity even by reposting stuff from Reddit or a bot parsing some RSS feeds, that’s kind of okay. It gives people something to discuss about the topic the forum is about.

You had to hop on the bus and go to the library searching through several books. That’s one Google search today. You hadn’t had the access to music, films, and so on. You can listen to nearly every modern song on Spotify versus those few CDs you had on your home or the songs that were playing on the radio. If you want to watch a movie you can do that. You do not have to wait until it’s showing on TV with at breaks or go to some kind of rental store. You want to go somewhere, just fire up Google Maps, versus buy and paper map, figure out where you are, and still get lost. Global communication is free. Just remember how expensive long distant calls were and how you lost contact to people who moved away.

Strava has the unique position that it is the de facto provider nearly everything does sync to. Even some chinese bicycle computer will sync to Strava, your obscure fitness tracker will too and that nice little app will also grab your data and display it. This nice ecosystem will end with these changes.

I mean … why not? There are a lot of things in games that simply just suck. Some games are requiring you to grind to gain some arbitrary stats to proceed. Or you need to do some things again and again to unlock the cool stuff.
