  • I like this license. I think some people in this comment section do not understand the purpose. An (open source) license is a tool that is used most effectively in determining what kind of entity uses your software. Use an mit or bsd license and everyone will use your software. Use a gpl license and large corporations might use it sometimes, but wont if there are alternatives and most likely wont incorporate it into any of their products.

This license might not be fully enforcable, but it is 100% poison to companies. Using this license(especially with the copyleft module) will almost certainly guarantee that only small projects will ever use it. Sure, it will kneecap your growth and your code will never see any real usage, but for some projects that might just be the best option.

  • Only tangentially related rant. Sorry.

I do like the idea of getting an x gender marker on my official id, as that also kinda feels like the “none of your fucking business” marker. It moves you closer to gender being just a social factor. The non-specificity working in its favour there. I won’t change it because there is no option to do it selectively, and having a passport with an x is really inconvenient.

I feel like gender and even sex at this point is almost fully obsolete. Really the only reason to keep using them as constructs is because they are being used as constructs, and that needs to be resolved first. And yeah, there’s a lot of other social classes and constructs that need to be dealt with. There needs to be an overarching change, not just “let’s not use gender anymore but essentially keep everything the same”

    Sorry for rambling

  • However, mailbox can still be encrypted with pgp, and has some built in supports which make this easier.

One problem I had with proton/tuta is that you cannot use a third party app due to the encryption, which you can with mailbox. A problem I have with mailbox is that it does not support fido2 for login or 2fa, which could be a security concern.

  • … so what doesn’t? Just saying <thing> sucks without saying why or providing a valid alternative is not helping anyone. Rather say something like

“Brave has done some shady things in the past and is based on chromium which is currently doing its best to kneecap adblockers and other privacy tools. If you want a good private browser, you might want to use librewolf instead”.

  • I could ask the same. Why would anyone want windows? I haven’t needed windows for anything in years. I run wine for windows stuff(mostly for fun) and it works if you’re competent.

Seriously tho, I care about my privacy somewhat, and a lot of my hardware just doesn’t run windows because it’s too heavy. I also dislike the lack of control I have over windows and can’t work with the windows DE in general.
