The problem with inflation is that the cat can never go back in the bag. Sure, the Fed says they have inflation “under control” at the moment, but it’s still way higher than where pre-covid projections predicted it would be at this time, and real wages have not nearly caught up to the increased prices that literally everyone who earns a paycheck for a living is feeling right now. High cost of groceries and gas will never go back to the way they were, and no matter who ends up sitting in the Oval Office next January, they won’t be able to change that fact.

Workers across the country need to wake up and realize that they outnumber the owner class 10,000 to 1. A general strike could grind the entire nation to a halt and then they’ll start listening to what we have to say. The politicians in Washington have already signaled that they don’t care if average people can’t make ends meet and nobody is coming to save us, so we have to take matters into our own hands using the tools proven to work time and time again - worker organization.

The right to bear arms was more about homestead defense against indigenous natives and foreign invading armies than it was for any kind of poison pill for Americans to topple their own government if they woke up one day and decided they don’t like who’s in charge anymore. The very notion that the founders would set up a new system of governance but be okay with the idea of baking in gun ownership rights to ensure that the people will always be able to conduct a violent insurrection as the vehicle for regime change is absurd.

Everybody likes to ignore the “well-regulated militia” part of that amendment, conveniently ignoring that a well regulated militia would answer to the state or the federal government, the very force of tyranny that they claim they need the guns to defend themselves against.

In all seriousness, most people could see this result coming from a mile away. The prosecution had a solid case against him. I expect the justice system to hold everyone accountable for their actions, regardless of who they are. Republicans expecting us to do backflips to defend Hunter Biden as some sort of “gotcha” are completely out of their gourd. He earned this conviction through his own deeds, just like how Trump earned his.

The warden at Rikers says they already have a plan in place for VIPs. They will put him in the isolation wing where he will have no cellmate and no interaction with the general prison population, and the Secret Service presumably have come up with a plan by now to protect the dumb fuck from himself while he’s on ice. Or better yet, congress can do their jobs for a change and just pass a law to strip former presidents of their secret service retinue if they are sent to prison and the problem will be solved without forcing Americans who are just doing their jobs from having to be punished alongside Trump.

Yes, this is also true. I see things like UBI as an inevitable necessity, because AI and automation in general will eliminate the need for most companies to employ humans. Our capitalistic system is set up in a way such that a person can sell their ability to work and provide value to the owner class, but if that dynamic is ever challenged on a fundamental level, it will violently collapse when people who can’t get jobs because a robot replaced them either reject automation to preserve the status quo or embrace a new dynamic that provides for the population’s basic needs without requiring them to be productive.

Meta is a private company and can do whatever the fuck they like.

This is in direct response to RFK complaining that his first amendment rights were being infringed by Meta. The thing that presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr. apparently doesn’t understand about the constitution is that 1st amendment rights shall not be infringed by the U.S. government. No law or statute can be passed that would limit or remove one’s freedom of expression. However, as I mentioned in another post in this same comment chain, Meta is not a government entity. By using their platform, you agree to their rules. They get to set the rules as whatever they want and you agree to abide by them so long as you are an account holder. If they decided that they don’t want anyone to say the word “Facebook” anymore and started banning people for saying it, that would be fully within their rights as a private entity, albeit unfair. This is no different than a platform like Lemmy banning you for posting Nazi shit or CSAM. You do not have unlimited free speech in private forums, and that’s a fact.

So when I said “Meta can do whatever the fuck they want”, I’m not sure how you possibly came to the conclusion that what I meant was “Meta doesn’t have to follow laws”. Of course they have to follow laws, everybody does. But if they aren’t breaking any laws, they can do as they please with their platform. I don’t believe in crypto either because it’s current value is solely derived on how much you can exchange it for real money. Outside of a few edge cases, nobody buys anything with crypto outside of the black market.

I’m sure crypto is a great solution to some finance problems related to centralized banking that I’m too lazy or dumb to care about, but I look at the energy consumption to calculate these massive chains for little tangible benefit, and the scammers and hypemen who are profiting off of other people’s hopes and desires to get rich quick on the next big boom, and I can’t help but feel like it’s an actively harmful element of society. At the very least, whatever regulations are currently in place that are attempting to reign in crypto are insufficient at reducing harm.
