18·19 days agoMy income is disability, and falls below the poverty line so I don’t technically need to file. I like to file just to make sure i have a record, but damn all the free programs were trying to make me pay out of pocket to file in my state. I’m sure most people are happy to spare the $35 or so for the ease of using software, but not having money at all makes the cost seem absurd. And there’s no reason for these companies to care that I can’t afford it, considering people going to pay that cost because for most the penalty of not filling taxes is much, much higher than the cut those programs take.

54·2 months agoThe article is confusing because it paints him as a “highly respected” ethical hunter and conservationist that hunts under culling licenses, but goes on to say the duiker he was hunting is rare and elusive. Wikipedia lists it as near threatened.
Man had a
hordehoard of animal trophies too, so it seems like he just found a loophole to killing and collecting animals in a ‘respectable’ wayEdit: pre-coffee typo :)

News@lemmy.world•List of dead or missing scientists "suspicious" as ninth case raised
9·2 months agoIt’s interesting that Nuno Loureiro is part of this list. I thought the articles that came out after his death said the (now dead) man who killed him once worked with him. So it seemed personal and not conspiracy-related

He’s a little bit older than the grandpa in this scenario, but he still gamed on the old systems by the time I stopped speaking to them.
