Bad title. It an issue that was patched
Big fan of SBC gaming, open source engine recreations/source ports, gaming in general, alternative operating systems, and all things modding.
Trying to post and comment often in an effort to add to Lemmy’s growth.
Bad title. It an issue that was patched
What is it exactly? Some kind of developer mode to bypass the login screen?
I wonder how this will work with local accounts
I was referring to drives like the Seagate 16TB HDD Exos X16. That said there are MDD drives that are apparently cheaper but I haven’t heard of them before.
I wasn’t sure about that considering HAMR and HDMR drives are being developed like Seagate’s Mozaic 3+ which has 30TB.
My stake is really that 30 TB mark. That should be enough to consolidate all my storage conveniently in one spot. I don’t need incredibly fast transfer speeds so I think an HDD would do fine.
In general, technology gets cheaper for better products over time. Short term that’s not always true, but the longer timescales you look, the better is it for consumers.
Yeah that’s why I linked the graph above. I asked here because I thought someone might have looked into this before and have a better insight on it. Maybe they’ve read about foretasted chip shortages or some kind of technological improvement with manufacturing? I am not sure. It’s something I only sporadically see articles about.
A year or two is a long time, and probably worth waiting.
If the price of a HDD on sale this year is equal to the average price of the same tier of HDD two or three years from now I’d probably just pull the trigger now.
If it works mind following up in an edit or comment so anyone who stumbles across this post knows?
The PCGamingWiki is also another good resource especially for older or more obscure games. Most fixes are Windows specific but they can be used on Linux. For example here is the page for Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit where it links fan patches and an open source engine recreation.
If someone is really desperate there’s always the option of searching GitHub issue pages like dxvk to see if it has been documented, if there is a temporary fix, if a fix is on the way, or if it’s going to remain a constant issue (ex. FiveM).
Ah my mistake. I wasn’t sure if it was a subtitle like Alan Awake 2: An American Nightmare.
You may want to try searching around GitHub. There’s a few posts regarding vkd3d.
https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/issues/1754
If you scrolls down to the bottom there are a few potential fixes mentioned in the form of launch commands.
There was this comment on Reddit as well
well there is some good news and bad news…the good news that i got it some fixes from other sites that it all need to do add env command line to your proton terminal is add this
export VKD3D_DISABLE_EXTENSIONS=VK_EXT_mesh_shader VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_0 VKD3D_SHADER_MODEL=6_5 %command%
then my fps went from 12 to 45 to 51 fps…and fbi lettering is restored as well, weird??
it looks like it disable vk_extension_mesh shader from use since vkd3d-proton is broken and bad news is its running 60% slower than windows 11 23h2 during testing both os…i lost fps is not cool dude who make vkd3d-proton 2.10, better fix it soon with next revison sooner
Still mostly spitballing but maybe it will get you going in the right direction or someone else can elaborate.
Some people use Usenet for that kind of thing. I typically stumble across things I have been looking for on other social sites. For example someone makes a post with Adult Swim pilots and specials and other people will add additional material they happen to have. Sometimes it can help to think of what category what you are looking for is under then lurk around there for something like a bundle or a mislabeled version.
Probably not the answer you are looking for but thought I’d mention it
I don’t own the game so I can’t offer a lot of help but have you tried ProtonDB?
There are two posts saying that they needed to use an older version of Proton.

It doesn’t seem like there’s much else there or on the PCGamingWiki related to it besides the audio issue fixes.
Good to known I thought there would be other giveaways like not having the DLC registered to your account but somehow having the achievements for it.
In that example though there might be some ways that could happen legitimately like having Fallout New Vegas on Steam but using DLC acquired from a physical copy or GOG.
I feel like I heard before no one has gotten banned for it yet but it just seemed a bit too easy to me
I don’t even like connecting to the net with pirated games. Always feel I’ll get banned and I used game piracy to test drive them.
Pirated games wouldn’t be associated with your Steam account so I don’t think you would be banned.
Even using the Steam API I don’t think you would unless you were sharing it openly or were making an obscene amount of requests.
That said I don’t know a ton about online fixes or using CreamAPI to unlock DLC for games you own so maybe it would be possible to get banned in that regard.
- Are free tier VPNs (like Proton VPN) good enough?
Other people have already answered this but keep in mind a lot of them are browser based. Even if you are using a web UI for your torrent client that’s not going to protect you. I’ve seen a few people here make that mistake.
- I don’t want to pay much or anything for a VPN, is a way I can get a good free one, or set one myself somehow (I have experience with selfhosting) ?
Have you considered looking into direct downloads?
They are a bit more work but if you are motivated on going in without protection it’s a safer alternative.
If it helps you rationalise the cost of a VPN you can always think about how much money you save compare to paying for subscription services.
This gives me red wine Facebook mom vibes
I wonder what games would take up that much space for save files. I mean if a game is autosaving frequently sure but I feel like you’d need a decent amount of them
How does this compare to other music streaming services these days?
I feel like it’s going to be a challenge to find a definition of malicious most people agree on.
Someone might think it’s fine to make nudes of Captain Marvel for example because she’s a character. They don’t really care about the Brie Larson aspect.
I suppose there is the option to eliminate any kind of name based suggestions.
When you say upgraded do you mean changed to a new device or just updated the OS?
If it’s the former you might be able to extract the app and transfer it and crack it yourself.
