World News@lemmy.world•Millions of children and teens lose access to accounts as Australia’s world-first social media ban beginsEnglish
1·4 days agoI’m not convinced it happens. I sure as shit feel like an old man some days physically, but my mind ranges from juvenile 12 year old potty humour to 70 year old get off my lawn and everywhere in between. It’s less often as I get older, but some days I get humbled when presented with something that I was sure was true that turns out to not be. It’s best to take it in stride as a learning opportunity rather than mope about it. It’s the xkcd “lucky 10000” situation.

3·4 days agoWithout a doubt. Like I said, I remember having views as a teen that were bad due to lack of life experience. I can look back into my 20s and think of plenty times where I was notably better than my teenage years but now I can see I still didn’t have it. It’s just the nature of growing up and getting older. We all evolve and have new life experiences that highlight our previous gaps in knowledge. It was just really noticable when I was listening to the sound bites in those PBS interviews the other week and it hit me like a truck. A sad, sad truck.

62·4 days agoI’m not saying today’s youth is dumber than past youth, I’m saying all youth are dumb due to ignorance, but especially when it comes to social media since that’s relatively recent in the grand scheme of the world.

3·4 days agoI’m not saying they are dumber than we were, I’m saying all kids are dumb due to ignorance. I do think that a lot of the current generation coming out is better adjusted than my generation, but they are still ignorant to the real world. The more I experience the real world the more ignorant I see that they are.
I really enjoy the jetbrains IDEs. They offer a free license, so you can try it without penalty. I prefer them over vscode personally.
It’s opt out for the free license, but it is possible to block AI in JB IDEs.

93·4 days agoI was watching a piece on this the other day on PBS and they had some sound bites from youths they interviewed. It really hit me just how much dumber kids get as I get older. They aren’t actually dumber, but my understanding about how ignorant they are just keeps getting clearer. I remember think similarly in my youth, so it’s not unique to this generation, so no shade, but kids are dumb.

51·5 days agoAI is best used for prompting and troubleshooting when it comes to code works, imo. It can give ideas, find a small bug, or just help get it of a corner. I never use the code generated but instead at least type out what I do want to use, both so I’m sure I know what it’s doing, and to not atrophy my skills.

Technology@lemmy.world•4 reasons Plex is turning into the thing it replacedEnglish
113·6 days agoAll possible, but currently I have lifetime Plex pass and just need to share with people I want to share with. No extra config. Once Jellyfin can do that or something similar, I’ll look at jumping ship. Until then, the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

5·6 days agoIs there a specific reason you never used it? Plex isn’t great with their enshitification, but once you have a Plex pass, that’s the complete expenditure. I disabled all of the “free” and other streaming suggestions from my Plex environment.

513·6 days agoDoes jellyfin have an easy way for remote streaming? I have a couple dozen people on my Plex server, most not very tech savvy, so setting up tailscale and running remote that way isn’t an option. I have a Plex pass so I haven’t been screwed by Plex yet, so I’m not rushing to get out, but I could see myself running both.

1·7 days agoI don’t think it’s fair to highlight that some pro athletes are horrible people as a mark against them being paid well as there are horrible people in every profession. Otherwise I agree with your first paragraph 100%. I will say that because they make enough to live extremely comfortably for the rest of their lives that it’s difficult to argue that they should get more of the cut, even if it’s revenue generated off of their work.

1·7 days agoOof I couldn’t disagree more. By that thought, artists, musicians, and any other entertainers are worth nothing, and that’s just wrong. Do you think that professional musicians shouldn’t make lots of money as well? What about actors or the people that work in theater production? Is that whole industry worth nothing as well?

12·7 days agoThey wouldn’t make so much money if they didn’t generate that much money. They’re paid what they’re worth, if not underpaid given their contribution to the total revenue of a club, IMO.
Can the web version of Excel do tables? I know that it’s a lesser version of the desktop app, but if tables was the most advanced feature you need, that could be an option.

I know. OP asked what x was before the loop, and I just said it’s an int. The int can be any value because as you pointed out it will be set to 0 in the first loop iteration.
