    The article however doesn’t cover how samsung is blocking phones from mexico and also not why the gray market is an issue for them.

    So Sony and Motorola did disable phones from other markets in mexico because people buy used phones from US or Europe because they are cheaper. The reason for that is apparently that they claim the chargers could harm the battery, which is bs.

    Other manufacturers only showed a message that the phone might not work in mexico.

    Mexico then punished manufacturers who locked phones with a new law that was made very quickly. Now it is illegal in mexico to lock down phones from other markets
