This meme has no relevance to anything. If it was trying to imply that the USA is cut off from healthcare, it’s totally inaccurate. There are thousands of hospitals and doctor’s offices all over the USA, and Americans utilize them all the time to obtain the healthcare that they need.
Even Americans with no money have options for free healthcare, and here is a link that can be used to access it:
Tell me you’re still on your parents insurance plan without telling me you’re on your parents insurance plan.
Is this fucker really trying to defend privatised healthcare…
This comment has no relevance to anything. If it was trying to imply that Americans don’t avoid healthcare due to cost, in effect denying Americans healthcare, it’s totally inaccurate. There are thousands of American citizens all over the USA that cannot afford healthcare, and Americans routinely avoid getting needed healthcare just to make ends meet.
Even Americans with higher incomes avoid healthcare, and here is a link that mentions that specifically: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/health-care-costs-rising-americans/
God where to begin.
Have you ever had a major medical need? An emergency room visit? God forbid an ambulance take you somewhere?
I was in a car accident that was entirely somebody else’s fault. I was lucky it was their fault, not so lucky with the accident. And I can tell you for a fact that when it was all said and done, their insurance paid out 150k or so. I know the individual was on the hook for tens of thousands as well. Everyone was insured, all I had was one evening in the ER and some physical therapy. About 10 stitches if memory serves. No surgeries, no major drugs or medicines or emergency medical care beyond making sure I was OK in the ambulance, and I think the PT was about three months for my shoulder.
Again, everybody was insured and this guy had to spend tens of thousands of dollars. No surgery, not even 24 hours in a hospital.
No, I did not get any money. They bought me a new car for about $15,000 because mine was totaled. And now I have a shoulder that makes clicking and popping noises when I pick up my kids.
How does anything I wrote jive with what you wrote?
Yes I have had all sorts of medical issues, numerous emergency room visits, and car accidents. I am quite well versed with the healthcare system in the USA and its costs. Everything that I wrote was based on real-life experience and facts. I’ve paid for the births of multiple children and surgeries for myself and family.
Every one of you that thinks healthcare is not accessible is wrong. We have options, and being a doomer who thinks that you don’t only hurts yourself and the others who you infect with your mental delusion.
My first child cost me $3000 to have and we had pretty above average health insurance at the time. My second was much cheaper because my company gave us great insurance. We get it, you have great healthcare. Most people do not. It is expensive as hell. Over 60% of bankruptcies in the US every year are related to - you probably didn’t guess it - medical debt.
👢 👅
Why are you this way?
Just why?
lemmy.world
I’m just here to spread some facts to fight back against this ridiculous doomerism. It is a straight-up fact that Americans do have access to healthcare, and this meme is making a joke to imply that we do not. It’s fucking stupid and being a doomer is worse than useless.
Hi there. Had kidney failure for about 8 years.
There was this one medication I badly needed to control secondary hyperparathyroidism. Literally used all avenues, and couldn’t get it approved or covered, other than by paying around 800$ for a single dose. I even had private insurance still at the time btw. The alternative was a surgery to remove a parathyroid gland which would then lead me to having other severe health complications if I got a kidney transplant. You know, due to now missing an organ.
Second treatment in Finland when I was just VISITING, not even a resident yet - "oh, you’re PTH levels are extremely high. We’re going to give you “medicine I’ve been trying to get for months”.
Just like that. No struggle even. Cost? 25$, and that includes the superior diafiltration treatment (USA only has dialysis, despite it giving poorer quality of life and lowering life expectancy, thanks to lobbying from DaVita.
Anyway, fuck you 🙂
I’m really sorry you had to go through all of that, but it’s great that you finally managed to get the treatment you needed.
Well fuck you too, you sick bastard.
Less sick than if I had been in the USA 🙃
Less dead, too.
Hopefully you don’t end up in my situation. Or maybe it’s better you do 🤷🏻♂️
I’ll be fine, because I have access to quality healthcare here in the USA, like I’ve been saying already.
You could really use some work on your tact. Perhaps you could get some mental health treatment in your healthcare utopia there.
I’ll give one tip for free: if you want to gain the sympathy of someone you’re speaking to, you don’t tell them “fuck you” at all, because that is quite tactless.
I’m not trying to get sympathy 🙂 I’m calling out your obvious bullshit with actual examples that shows you’re full of shit.
You’re so full of shit you can’t even argue against the example given, such as how the “quality healthcare” doesn’t even offer diafiltration. Hell y’all still do the step ladder sticking technique and use fax machines.
For the average person, healthcare there is partying like it’s 1998. I guess though if you’re a near millionaire it’s pretty good though.
But I guess I can’t fault you much for being so full of shit - I know it’s hard to schedule and get a basic colonoscopy there too.
I will say though, I hope you get kidney failure. It’d be for the greater good - not because of your suffering, but it’s clear you’re one of those that will only ever understand once they suffer, and only then would you actually try to help those less fortunate and make the world a better place.
So there’s no room for improvement then? Because I really don’t think it’s as accessible as other nations and your ability to heal shouldn’t depend on your job.
Meanwhile we’ve reached past global resource tipping points, yet there are still people who believe we can manage a post scarcity society.
Idealism will be the death of us all.
Nowhere did I ever say anything like that. Not once did I say “the American healthcare system is perfect” or great or even good.
What I said already is still there where I said it before. Please do not make up your own interpretations of my words, because you cannot speak for me.

Dude you’re fucking deluded but I’m glad you personally have excellent insurance
“How dare you suggest we pay for free healthcare” - most Americans in Greta Thunberg ’ voice
Don’t Americans pay way more compared to most other countries because there’s little to no competition and/or price negotiation to reduce the cost of prescription drugs? I thought that was what people were saying, not that they don’t want to pay for healthcare. lol. How intellectually dishonest of you 😂
I paid 1000 dollars for an emergency room visit when I was incapacitated by a muscle in my back. Next day, went to the doctor, still had to pay another 150 dollars. He put his hands on my back like he was doing some sort of Vulcan technique. My back was never fixed and I’m afraid to go back and pay more cause I have nothing. I’m on the state plan. It started at 30 bucks a month two years ago, now its 139 bucks a month. Please, shut the fuck up. We need to abolish this system and actually have social programs for this.
I went to the doctor in my country with a sore wrist. I got prescribed an anti inflammatory medication. The pharmacist split the pills up into individual bags to help track what I should take each day.
The whole thing including medicine cost me $5 USD
Damn, that sounds nice. Medication is one area where we still get fucked in Canada.
Meanwhile in America, we had to take my daughter to the hospital to have a penny unstuck from the roof of her mouth. The only reason I couldn’t get it out is because she was being hysterical and nearly hurt herself in the process. Removing it took 2 mins, a suction tube, and a q-tip. It cost us $300 out of pocket.
Masses of tests culminating in 9 months of chemo on magrath, multiple meds and hospital stays from complications including two stints in ICU, CAT scans, blood tests, etc etc. $0 AUD at one of the best cancer care hospitals in the world.
Oh and i also received federal disability payments because i couldn’t work.
Hey. I went to the ER and didn’t have to pay a dime of the near $100k that I was billed. This is primarily because I was hit by an SUV and they were ruled completely at fault. I did have to setup a payment plan for the $5k that the US hospital system charged for my wife spraining her ankle two weeks before or wedding. Yeah. That was fun. Literally cost more than we could afford for the wedding.
Fuck this privatized, for-profit system.
totally inaccurate
Absolutely!
Good and accurate.
We’re not cut off! We have the freedom to go bankrupt and usually get most of the care we need.
I mean, sure, we could die even if we throw all we have at it. But we have the freedom to die! 'Merica!!
I always make sure to have an American flag up in my room and a map of the US on my computer. America, fuck yeah!
