Eurasian Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium passerinum) The Eurasian pygmy owl (Glaucidium passerinum) is the smallest owl species found in Bulgaria and Europe. It measures about 16 cm in length and weighs only 60-80 grams. The species is rare and protected, listed in Annex II of the Bern Convention and in the Red Data Book of Bulgaria.

This observation confirms the stable presence of the Eurasian pygmy owl in the Shiroka Polyana Reservoir area, which is part of the Natura 2000 network and provides suitable habitats for several forest-dwelling owl species.
