I’m a newbie so am not familiar with a lot of things, please be kind, also am super overwhelmed by all the choices and options out there, but I’m currently building an mini itx pc with a Ryzen 9 (planning to eco mode it, but still want good cooling just incase) in it and need something compact but powerful to cool it.

The 90 SE is at a very good price right now for me, but no idea if it’s enough. The silver soul has an extra pipe so I’m guessing it’s more high end? It’s price is also higher, both are the same height and size. And there’s the low profile coolers, no idea which one of them is best. Any recommendations or other options to go for?

As long as you don’t plan on overclocking your CPU then you can’t really go wrong with either. Be sure to check for compatibility with your specific case, as that is your biggest limiting factor. Also make sure the cooler fits over your RAM. Everything is packed together on those motherboards and some of the ridiculously tall RAM heatsinks can get in the way.

The one thing I DON’T recommend is using the Ryzen stock cooler they ship with their cpus. Those things aren’t worth the garage bag I throw them in.

As for other suggestions, I’ve put a cooler master hyper 212(and it’s 1st gen equivalent) in every rig I’ve built and love it. Bought one for my first build and it worked so well that it’ll be my go to until it stops working.

Are you sure? I heard good things about the 90 SE but also saw conflicting information, some say it’s surprisingly powerful for it’s size, some say it’ll throttle at most stock settings - let alone overclocking. Nothing for the silver soul, no idea if it’s any different or not with it’s extra heat pipe. Neither have any official TDP ratings as far as I’ve seen so no idea what they can theoretically handle. Want something compact that can still hold up even in a worst case scenario, just incase, I’m thinking long term.

Both their sizes should fit my case and motherboard, they aren’t too wide and aren’t too tall from reading the measurements and seeing pictures of it, don’t know if there’s anything smaller that doesn’t severely sacrifice performance, no idea if a low profile cooler can compete with a tower one in terms of cooling and performance.

Never heard of that one before, how’s it’s handling things with your CPU?

I can’t personally attest to every individual cooler thermalright makes, because they have literally hundreds of options. However, on the whole they are quite reputable in the industry at making high “bang for your buck” products. Both of these product lines are incredibly similar, and I would expect similar results from both. The one difference I note, looking at the product pages, is the ss 110 has slightly higher fan RPM and moves more air per minute than the pa 90se. More air moving through the cooler may theoretically lead to better cooling performance, depending on your use case. From a thermodynamics standpoint, the extra heart pipe could make a minor difference in extreme cases. It’s all about total surface area. But I think that would be splitting hairs. You indicated you’re a beginner and don’t plan on pushing your rig too hard, so I personally wouldn’t get too caught up on which cooler to use.

The 212 works great for me. My current rig runs a 13600k, and I game at 1440p and aim for 60+ fps. The same with rigs I’ve built for others, no temp issues. In one instance my brother-in-law had overheating with a different cooler that was fixed by installing the 212 I recommended. The only limiting factor for you is space. I mostly build atx because I like the extra room. No idea how it would fit in your build.

If you want more in depth info, gamers Nexus does great breakdowns of the peerless assassin and silver soul lines. I didn’t find videos specifically for the 90se and 110, however, the videos for other coolers in the same lines will give you a general idea of performance to help make your decision. Good luck!
