With little post-pandemic recovery, experts wonder if screen time and school absence are among the causes.

I’ll note two things:

  1. device time has shifted from text to video, which means that it’s not a source of reading practice
  2. a big chunk of the increase in absences is because people spend more time sick because COVID keeps circulating, and few kids are getting boosters to limit how bad it is
