Holy shit, reading that name unlocked some very old memories!
Wow, this game was incredible! Apogee did a tonne of great work, but this may have been my favourite. The music and intro cutscene especially stand out in my mind.
Hell yeah, raptor is great.
Things I remember from this game: you fight scumbag inc. on behalf of douchebag inc., inter-stage shopping and wishing you could afford the twin blue lasers, 1-1 stage theme
Can still hear the bullet sounds, like shooting tin cans.
Whoohoo, this game was my jam when I was a kid.
Does anybody have pointers how to compile it? The readme is a little lacking…
It’s just a source release, not even a Linux port done yet. It should be possible to build it for DOS and run it in dosbox but I don’t know the tools required for that.
For what it’s worth, that same github user already reverse-engineered the game : https://github.com/skynettx/raptor and this one should be able to compile on modern platforms.
There is probably a story behind the source release, I wonder what it is…
I’d like to know, too. I just played a bit of the reverse-engineered demo again (never had the full version as a kid, either) and it’s still a fun game.
This used to be my favourite game. Megabombs were the best. Also, there was an Easter egg on I think May 16th
Monkey related trauma flashback
Me and my childhood best friend used to play this all the time when we had the Apogee Game Collection. So many great memories.
This makes me beyond happy
