I half wonder if it’s regional, I reserved mine when that went up and mine showed up a few weeks back, it shipped out of the states though so idk.

If you have a steamdeck, layout is close but it’s way more comfortable to use the trackpad. Rear buttons are a lot nicer than the ones of the deck. It feels closer to the oled deck stick wise, I have a lcd one which I swear has way farther travel. I haven’t figured out what to do with the grip inputs yet, not super sure how useful they’ll be for me to be honest but cool it’s there.

Small things and totally software that I appreciated, noticed that the back buttons are one by default with it, maybe that’s across the board now, was a small but appreciated change because I was always having to turn that on. Also like that steam input can ignore trackpad inputs if you’re touching the sticks.

Oh it hammed it up for sure, to me it added to the charm but I can totally get if you weren’t expecting it in the setting.

It takes a lot of inspiration from Disco Elysium, which is not subtle at all (and is extremely memorable for it). Having an election be a constant thing that you had to think about was an interesting way to work it into the world imo.

I use both, debian on servers and old machines, arch on my desktop. Arch being rough is way overblown in my experience, the install script makes it straightforward to setup and it’s been pretty much painless since I switched to it two years ago, I had experience with debian before that. Both arch and debian have fantastic documentation available.

Debian and derivatives, in my experience, are really well supported so that’s a plus. Age of packages has never really bothered me and cases where I want bleeding edge there’s options for that.

Both are solid options and I don’t think you’ll be upset either way, if you can I’d try both.

Saw someone describe it as 90s Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and that was enough for me to pick it up. It’s short yeah but to me it’s a good example of games as art. The music choice is integral to the experience, I really enjoyed it and have been gently suggesting my partner play it.

That was one of the really cool features of the OG steam controller (and the deck too but I don’t use as much), pads can totally be setup to emulate a trackball and the haptics were weirdly good and giving you feedback. I found it really solid for games like warframe, that and gyro aiming (which I’ve never gelled with on the deck) felt pretty solid to me.

Otherwise, the trackpads can be used for things like rotary menus too which I definitely get a lot more use out of.

If you can swing it, Sabrent makes some nvme enclosures for the 2230 size the deck uses https://sabrent.com/collections/nvme-enclosures/products/ec-ne30 that are super reasonable price wise, https://sabrent.com/collections/nvme-enclosures/products/ec-snveis for full size and is also super reasonable. What I did for mine and my partner’s decks upgrading from a 512 GB ssd, if you have drive space you could do with one enclosure. I use the old ssd as a removable drive now so it doesn’t got to waste.

Ssd is the way to go for sure, SD card is nice to have but it’s very noticeably slower for some things, I tend to use it for emulators and games I don’t play frequently.

Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of it for two things.

First being sqlserver, though that’s been able to run on linux for a long time now, there’s a bunch of features not supported but not a deal breaker for a lot of people, I haven’t encountered ssis or ssas in years for example.

Second being Internet Information Services (IIS), which some people really seem to like.

Wouldn’t be surprised if active directory required a windows machine either, definitely a bunch of cases I’m not considering or aware of but I’m no sysadmin.

I haven’t looked at Nix in detail but you got me interested for 3d printers in particular, already have my klipper config in git if an SD card fails on me, going to have to look at doing that for the os too.

Are you married to the idea of wireless? The old suggestion of decent headphones and a mic are imo the best way to do things. I’ve got an old blue yeti I use when I need a mic, but been considering getting a modmic to attach to my headphones. I ran with a pair of Beyerdynamic DT-880s for over a decade as my daily drivers with a FiiO DAC/amp combo, use a k5 pro now with some DT 1990s and found that to be a great combo.

Yeah there’s absolutely a rating to look for and N95 is part of that, stateside, you have niosh ratings, you’ll see these wrt industrial ppe, but there are ratings for use with CN and CS gas. My experience with them is the chemical cartridges usually have a p100 filter combined with them for particulate too. Organic Vapour & Acids are easy to get a hold of (Used these when i worked in O&G), I don’t know how well they’d work against teargas unfortunately.

I will 100% recommend north full face, a half mask is probably better than nothing but the full face gives you eye protection too. I didn’t personally like the 3m style masks, but it’s all down to personal preference, just make sure it fits correctly.

The “I Heart Vanilla” pack is supposed to be good for that, I run with Just Good Morrowind, plays extremely well on the steamdeck too.

It’s still by far my favourite of the series.

If it’s really bad (sometimes you just can’t get a good grip), you can break the seal by pushing the lid up or prying a bit, there’s tools that do just that, I’m totally guilty of leveraging it a bit with a crappy butter knife.

I have an LCD one, got my partner an OLED one last year. It’s noticeably better looking with a sightly larger screen and the battery life is decidedly better. I got the LCD when it was steeply discounted and don’t regret it, but the oled one is a nicer device. Thumbsticks are broader and it’s also a bit lighter.

I also really liked Heaven’s Vault, really recommend that as well. Tunic is probably one of my favourite recent games, genre wise very different but still in that translation category.

Chants was probably in my top I played last year, absolutely loved the soundtrack too.

The only real issue is hdr in my experience, runs fine through gamescope usually but I’ve found the proton only option (expose Wayland and the like through proton_ge) technically work but the colours are washed out (and yeah, I have all the dxvk hdr stuff there). Dlss and frame gen work perfectly fine, HDR through gamescope does work as well for most games, bl4 has weird dlss artifacts in linux for some reason but that’s the notable standout to me. Been running a 4070ti for the last year for reference, I do intend to go amd at some point but nvidia works fine.

Linux has that for vulkan shaders but like, you still get compiling shaders when loading in bl4 even after that.

I don’t recall satisfactory having that issue and it’s ue5 afaik, hits a solid fps too even with global illumination on.

For the price? Yeah absolutely. I got mine really discounted and it holds up, my partner has an oled which looks great and I like the larger screen, but not sure if $300 more is worth it for everyone. You can get a solid case & screen protector, battery bank and upgrade the ssd for nearly that.
