Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•PipePipe got stuck in a loop. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?English
5·10 days agoAw geez, wish I can help more. But IMO the dev is very aware of this. IIRC when 5.2.4, this current latest version, dropped, I remember seeing in-app popup pointing to that GitHub issue that the dev opened.

4·10 days agoCould be related to this issue.
I can corroborate that when I turn off my custom DNS it works swimmingly, until YouTube figured out to block my IP again.

Technology@lemmy.world•Keychron announces first open-source firmware for gaming miceEnglish
6·10 days agoThis is good. I want them to succeed with this. This way it could tell Elecom to open-source their mouse firmware and that could make their trackballs more accessible. Come on, Elecom, I need an improved Deft Pro, with open-source firmware!

News@lemmy.world•‘The Government Hopes To Set a Precedent’: An Interview With the Man Charged for Allegedly Wiping His GrapheneOS PhoneEnglish
1·12 days agoI might get a used pixel a series as a burner phone, and as a test for my country’s bank apps. I am aware that there are a lot of bank apps that do work on GOS, and sone of that are ones that operate in my country. But not all. If I can scrounge up the money for it, I’ll be sure to share my findings somewhere
So in the middle of this comment, I searched for such a list since I remember faintly there’s one, and found this: https://privsec.dev/posts/android/banking-applications-compatibility-with-grapheneos/
I’m happy to say that some of the biggest banking apps in my country has been reported to be work on GOS. fascinating.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Tesseract dev injects malicious code into browser to illegally DDOS the dbzer0 instanceEnglish
0·12 days agoDon’t have to install anything. Some instance make it the default though, but I think most front end like Voyager or Alexandrite (or tesseract since we are discussing it) you can visit their web page and point your home instance to use their UI.
Edit; I’m copying a comment someone else made here https://piefed.zip/comment/6322459 since it’s pretty consise than what I explained 😅
It’s a frontend. So literally a skin to make a website look prettier and more organized.
Imagine a waiter starts telling customers what foods they are allowed to eat. He wasn’t the chef, the manager, the owner, anybody.
That’s how stupid it was.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Tesseract dev injects malicious code into browser to illegally DDOS the dbzer0 instanceEnglish
0·13 days agoIt kind of is, considering it’s still an app of sorts, but using the web browser. I just keep using “front end” because that’s what others call it. I see it like an app. but yeah, it’s to change the UI if you don’t like the default lemmy UI.

0·14 days agobottom face/hands,
I usually don’t like to play the “English as second language” card, as I take great pride learning it, but I need to for this one lol. what does this mean?

0·14 days agoIt’s a front end to change the UI of lemmy, and others like lemmy. you can see some examples of others here: https://www.lemmyapps.com/ . Filter by web app to see some of the other popular ones.

0·14 days agoI don’t really go on a blocking spree much. How would a front end’s block list implementation be different than the instance’s choice of software’s block list implementation?
I hardly browse All and Local. I am on a piefed based instance, and leave “Enable Automatic Follow of Feed Communities.” and “Enable Automatic Leave of Feed Communities.” on. So kind of my subscribed feed is semi automatic as long as I follow a broad topic.

Android@lemdro.id•Android May Soon Restrict On-Device ADB, Affecting Shizuku, libadb and DevelopersEnglish
0·15 days agoIf android is truly getting locked down, I’ll just get the cheapest smartphone I can get because everything here in my country needs their own smartphone app for their own 2FA and they all want Play Integrity. It’s getting really annoying to bypass all these asinine roadblocks on my fucking phone.
Banks and online shopping apps can get bent policing my phone.
And I’ll just carry a small Linux laptop to do all my other internet and computing needs. Shit’s fucked up. And carry a Faraday bag just for the phone.

Yeah, same here. I usually like weird looking forms for ordinary objects. The cybertruck counts.
Even disregarding the emotional association to Musk, which is nigh impossible, the engineering of the car makes it suck to hell, because that’s all Musk’s decision he forced.

4·17 days agoclicking through that link, it obviously blocks my zen browser, and recommends google’s chrome, chromium, ms edge and opera.
this seems like a massive L still. hopefully it’s not hard-coded to require those 4 only, and a stripped down chromium browser can be used. I don’t have a race in this horse yet, becauseI did consider 8bitdo controllers once my gamesir controller dies. maybe I’ll just have to save up for a steam controller, even though Valve still doesn’t ship to my country, and I refuse to buy from scalpers. even legit businesses here are scalping hard… fucking scalpers.
my first draft comment to you was a bit hopeful that maybe stripped down chromium browsers can replace your singular use windows VM. I apologize for assuming

I use YouTube Music Morphe in lieu of Spotify just for discovery. And now one of the later patches added listenbrainz scrobbling. I can have two algorithms for discovery.
Well in any case of misunderstanding how that works, some songs that I listen to is YouTube only. since people have been uploading music, including original music, to YouTube since before google bought them.
And I still want to rebuild my offline library. can’t rely on online streaming only for when the world goes to shit.
