  • I’m not trying to argue that it’s right. More just trying to point out the fundamental flaw in getting pissed at something that’s already a problem.

Just getting upset at this one thing because it’s new and having your attention drawn to it is pointless. Trying to stop it is even more pointless. It also shows that the person getting upset doesn’t actually understand the real problem here and is functionally just falling for the fear mongering of the headline in a sense.

You need to actually go after the underlying problem that even allows this to happen in the first place. And yeah my example was far more simplistic compared to digital logging. But it was ment to be a quick simple example.

I just get tired of people not paying attention to the problems around them till some new thing pops up that gets head lines. If that makes sense?

I don’t find the argument that everyone should have a perfect expectation of privacy in public locations. It just doesn’t make logistical sense. Shared spaces just fundamentally are going to require everyone to agree to some level of privacy loss for the sake of usability of the space.

But the right to be anonymous in public should also be a thing. So while someone expecting to not be recorded and documented is a bit silly. That documentation and recording should be of the sort that’s not able to profile and harass.

For example, if you get caught up in a photo or recording someone making at a park. Your sharing the space and that’s just the compromise. But someone taking a picture of every single person for the singular purpose of tracking every person that goes though is fucked up.

Kinda just a this is why we can’t have nice things sorta problem. Cause I can also see the need to have some level of monitoring for security purposes. But anything more then a basic cctv setup always feels extremely over kill.

A dumb rolling recording. Nothing more or less always seemed like the perfect middle ground. Its enough to be useful and still respectful enough of the identity of the avg person.

But give people an inch and they take a mile and those basic dumb recordings become over the top bullshit quickly.

I could bitch about a lot of this forever, but text is kind of a crappy place to have nuanced discussions.

  • I had to switch to Gemini on my phone cause Google assistant kept crashing my entire fucking phone no matter what I tried. Even a full wipe and start over it would just crash it.

The thing is fucking worthless. I use it basically ONLY to turn my lights on/off from bed and to call my mother while driving

90% of the time it doesn’t understand what a light is and the other half it just randomly calls someone on my contacts instead of who i said.

Google assistant at least was reliable when it wasn’t out right nonfunctioning.

  • No not really actually. The general idea of walt being a racist and anti Jewish is generally over blown.

Don’t get me wrong he was in fact racist. But he was culturally racist. He was a man of his time. Politically and publicly he was honestly what ever.

He was far too focused on his business. And a lot of the more overt racist things that he gets accused of tends to just be from those who he worked around and because of his business would have been supporting. But it was more a byproduct of just running a successful business of the time. Not so much him going out of his way to be racist.

Like you have to really judge things by the culture of the era. What was honestly a very mild 5 out of 10 all things considered. Sure, he could have been better but be sure the f*** wasn’t overly problematic. Lot of his contemporaries business partners were far worse and used their influence as well as Walt himself to exert a number of problem. Things which of course won’t being more focused on his business and not really caring one way or the other just let happen so you can lay some blame in his feet.

But on the flip side you also have to consider things like song of the South. Where it’s a very problematic film and clearly comes from an error of extreme racism and slavery. The focus was on Walt trying to share stories that he heard growing up and sharing the positive side of those stories. Yeah they’re from slaves and you can’t divorce that. So it’s well-meaning just aged poorly.

Cuz by today’s standards it’s horribly whitewashed and incredibly racist. But back then all things considered when you put it in the context of the era and the man who LED it, it’s a honest attempt to do better and share positivity out of something that was horrifically toxic.

Really every time I’ve ever done a deep dive into Walt’s life or his history the same few things come up over and over and over again. Pretty much every major racist, anti-jewish or other problematic thing that people lay at the feet of Walt just comes down to the simple fact. He just didn’t care.

He had a business to run. His partners were far worse than him and he just let them do whatever he never stood up and said this is too far because that would have been a bad business move in the era.

Malt is a fantastic example of the cruelty of indifference and capitalism. The business world does not care for morals. It does not care for people. It only cares for money and progress.

  • Iv always compared it to a library vs news station.

A library collects and helps distribute information. But none of it is their own. While a news station driectly reports on and creates the information that is later catalogued.

Its why in theory a reporter and new source should be held to a very high standard, while a library could in theory be full of bad, false, or other wise misleading information.

A library can’t actually do anything about it realistically on a grand scale. Sure they can ban or bar repeated known offenders. But it’s a cat and mouse game. Same as a search engine. They can stop indexing people who are problems, but they have no real way to know ahead of time till it becomes a problem.

Ai on the other hand is reporting and generating direct sources by its own actions. Its no longer just indexing.

  • Literally everyone but the youngest of children can comprehend it. War and service is about as old and traditional to humanity as you can fucking get.

Not a soul on this planet has grown up not being taught endlessly about war and duty. Even if it’s sanitized out the fucking ass. The majority have also been directly effected by it one way or another. Loss of life, mental well being, home, food, or even mass displacement. For themselves or their loved ones.

Short of bread and beer you don’t get fucking anything more ubiquitous than military service to the human experience.

Its a fucking insult to even consider someone out side of the youngest children might not be able to comprehend how far reaching and devastating. Military service can be.
